The EU told about new sanctions against Russia

The European Union continues to tighten sanctions against Russia, new measures will affect cryptocurrencies and technology exports. This was announced by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on her Twitter page on March 9.

 

According to her, there are already 160 Russians in the European sanctions list. They are businessmen and members of the Federation Council.

The sanctions will be introduced against exports of marine navigation equipment to Russia and crypto-assets.

Also, measures will affect the banking sector in Belarus, added the head of the European Commission.

Earlier on Wednesday, the French presidency of the EU Council reported that the postpresidents of the European Union agreed on new sanctions against Russian officials and businessmen.

On the same day, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said the Russian government was working to make the economy more resilient amid sanctions.

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian government is taking measures to ensure the functioning of the economy against the backdrop of sanctions. According to him, these measures are systemic and correspond to the current "extraordinary, unfriendly conditions.

 

On March 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on anti-crisis measures. Now the government will be able to carry out additional indexation of insurance pensions, the pension coefficient and the fixed payment to pensions during 2022.

Earlier on this day the USA imposed a ban on all imports of Russian energy carriers. In this case, U.S. President Joe Biden said that Washington understands that the allies in Europe will not be able to join the ban on energy imports from Russia.

 

Foreign companies began to suspend activities in Russia amid sanctions imposed by countries in response to Russia's operation to protect Donbas, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24.

A few days earlier, the situation in the region had deteriorated significantly due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation and also appealed to Moscow for help.

On February 21, Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.
