The founder of the Off White brand has died

- We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Ablo, a devoted father, husband, son, brother and friend... For over two years Virgil bravely battled a rare and aggressive form of cancer - cardiac angiosarcoma. Since his diagnosis in 2019, he has chosen to wage his battle privately, undergoing many complex procedures, all the while leading several significant institutions that span fashion, art and culture," the fashion designer's account said.

LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault said everyone at the company was shocked by the terrible news.

- Virgil was not only a brilliant designer and visionary, but also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sorrow and we all think of his loved ones after the death of their husband, father, brother, son and friend," Louis Vuitton social media quoted Arnaud as saying.

Virgil Ablo is survived by his wife Shannon, children Lowe and Grey Ablo as well as his sister and parents.

Virgil Ablo founded the Off-White brand in 2013. In March 2018, he became the designer of Louis Vuitton's men's line; he was the first black man in the position. Ablo has also been a DJ.

Angiosarcoma of the heart is a rare malignancy of the cardiovascular system. The tumour is difficult to treat as it metastasises rapidly.
