The Hilly eateries and their delicacies in Uttarakhand

The menu of the hilly eateries in Uttarakhand are very small, the verbal menu of these road side dhabas includes samosas (fan made in local bakery), bun (locally known as bund), "aaloo ke gutke" (shallow fried diced potatoes), boiled eggs, omelette, pakori (dumplings) and a popular dish known as "chhwal". While travelling in the hills of Uttarakhand, one can easily found " chhwal" & raita at any road side dhabas. Some people like to eat "chhwal" with bun, some with boiled egg and tea made with ginger. This dish is very tasty, spiced with fresh herbs and spices. The delicious dish made of white peas is called "chhwal" in the hills of Uttarakhand. The aroma of fresh coriander and freshly chopped onions topped in these "chhwal" makes it more flavorful.

While traveling in the hills, nausea and vomiting is a common problem. But eating this  traditional "chhwal" reduces the cause of such problems. Fresh herbs and spices used in this traditional dish are quite effective due to its properties, such as ginger, raw onion and lemon. Ginger relieves stomach problems, as ginger has antiemetic properties. Antiemetic is a substance that prevents vomiting and dizziness. Citric acid present in lemon also helps to cure vomiting. Similarly, raw onion is also very beneficial in this type of problem.

 So whenever you go for a tour in the hills of Uttarakhand, must try this famous dish "chhwal", which is a well known delicacy in the dhabas of Uttarakhand.
