The Key To Happiness And Greater Success

It is once again that time of year.

The cycle is never tiresome.

Let me guess… You are perhaps contemplating what a dangerous year it has been.

The difficulties and sufferings you have endured.

Nevertheless, you are certain that next year will be different...

It will not occur.

I'm sorry to be the party pooper, but I really want what's best for you, so I'll tell you the truth...

You presumably had objectives for 2022 at the beginning of the year, right? Lose weight, pay off debt, acquire a valuable skill, etc.

Did you accomplish it?

If so, I'm not speaking to you; click the "X" in the upper-right corner of your screen.

But if you didn't, I'd want to help you overcome the habit of setting unattainable objectives.

I'd want to explain the method I've used to shift from:

·         A taekwondo competitor who was previously expected to compete for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.

·         to a football player who abandoned a professional deal

·         to a minister leading a congregation of seventy or more youngsters

·         is a machine learning engineer and author whose tales have been watched over 2.1 million times over the previous two years.

All within the span of ten years.

Maintain an open mind while reading the rest of the narrative.

I will leave you with strategies you can apply now that will alter the results you obtain through 2023 and beyond.

As Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing again and expecting different results."

The difficulty in setting goals

Everyone has been sold a deception.

Not by making goals can you accomplish your life's desires.

A goal is necessary for orientation, but it is erroneous to believe that it is the path to achieving one's desires.

#1 The optimistic fantasy fallacy

It is simple to get too engaged in reaching a goal.

You know... when the only thing on your mind is attaining the objective.

The enthusiasm. The bliss. The comfort.

The term for this is "positive fantasy."

It is unhealthy.

Psychologists have shown that imagining is the number one method your brain might inadvertently prevent you from achieving your objectives.

Positive imaginations provide mental immersion in the desired future...

You might experience the feelings of achieving your objective in the present, which depletes your motivation to seek your desired future.

You are also unaware of the barriers you will undoubtedly confront, rendering you immobile upon encounter.

#2 The consequence first trap

Goals focus on results...

This does not account for the maintenance necessary to sustain the result.

Why do you believe 70% of lottery winners become insolvent within three to five years and a third declare bankruptcy?

The symptom (being broke) is addressed, but the source (poor spending habits) remains unchanged.

When things appear bleak and you're aware of them, it's simple to attribute the issue on the results.

When you're broke, you feel broke.

When overweight, one experiences feeling overweight.

However, it's easy to overlook the underlying reason of repeating results since they often occur on a subconscious level.

Yes, it is possible to win the jackpot or undergo liposuction...

But if you continue to spend irresponsibly and consume nothing but junk food, you'll be right back where you began.

Resolutions at the result level are transient.

#3 The failure condition snare

Have you ever thought, "I'll be pleased when I accomplish X?"

This is the condition of failure.

It is a consequence of having a goal-oriented mindset.

Happiness is postponed until a later period in the future, while your current self struggles with the pain of the present.

The cause is straightforward: goal orientation generates either-or conflicts —

"You are either a failure (you have not accomplished your goals) or a success (you have accomplished your goals)."

No intermediate ground exists.

Countless times, I've fell into this trap.

What exactly are systems?

Systems are the driving force behind your ambitions.

In the long term, they sustain the need for self-control and boost your general satisfaction.

"Goals are useful for establishing a direction, but systems are more effective for achieving success." Atomic Habits by James Clear

Listed below are few instances of efficient systems:

Objective: Complete a novel in one year. Write "two mediocre pages every day" (as Tim Ferris would say).

Objective: Expand social media presence. System: Post every day.

Goal: to master an instrument System: Practice the instrument's basics regularly.

Systems' significance Systems provide structure.

For instance, the United Kingdom employs a credit system to evaluate your eligibility for borrowing.

I'm not claiming it's flawless, but it eliminates the bank's guessing in determining who is most likely to repay a loan.

The same applies to your own life.

Systems minimize uncertainty on the actions required to accomplish a goal.

Without a framework for achieving, one's objectives, life becomes chaotic.

Systems minimize uncertainty on the actions required to accomplish a goal.

Without a framework for achieving, one's objectives, life becomes chaotic.

Here's why they're necessary:

#1 Systems emphasize the ability

Focusing on the skill accepts the process - "I am not yet where I want to be, but if I accomplish X, I will be one step closer."

Even if you do not reach your objective, you have acquired a talent that will last a lifetime.

Your efforts will not be in vain.

#2 Systems generate permanent change

In contrast to objectives, systems emphasize process...

Systems tackle the root cause of a problem, and as a result, the symptoms (outcomes) alter.

"If you correct the inputs, the outputs will correct themselves."

— James Clarence

For instance, addressing poor spending habits may result in increased disposable income.

Systems accept enjoyment in the present.

Not everything is black and white.

You do not have to attain your goals before you may experience happiness.

You may now be joyful...

You may find happiness today by falling in love with the experience of progressing toward your goals.

If you've reached this point, you're likely curious in how to design a system.

I will demonstrate in five easy steps.

How to establish a system in five easy stages

Incorporating little, regular victories into your life is the key to developing a successful method.

There must be something to celebrate every day.

Prepare yourselves for impact.

This will be the most applicable section of the article; grab a paper and pen, and let's go through these procedures together.

Step 1: Determine your objectives.

Sit down and consider your desires.

Be truthful with yourself and do not be scared to delve deeply.

For instance, declaring "I want to be a professional footballer" is not specific enough if you want to be one of the finest professional players competing for championships in England, Europe, and the top four clubs.

This stage aims to precisely describe what is on the other side of the river.

Following are instructions on how to construct a bridge and cross it.

The five why's constitute the second stage.

Everyone has objectives they want to attain, and occasionally these ambitions coincide with your own.

Your why will set you apart from the competition.

Your "why" is the source of your feeling of purpose.

But it is vital to identify the root cause of the issue - the obstacle preventing you from reaching your goals (Remember: systems treat the cause, not the symptom).

The five whys strategy is an effective method for discovering this.

Ask yourself why you want what you desire, provide an explanation, and repeat the procedure four times.

Consider the following circumstance as an example:

Why #1: Why do you want to be one of the finest professional footballers playing for a top-four English and European championship contender?

Response #1 I have a chip on my shoulder I wish to disprove those who have questioned me.

Why #2: Why do you want to disprove those who have questioned you?

Response 2: Therefore, people will not give up on me in the future.

Why #3: Why do you not want others to abandon you?

Response #3: It destroys my self-assurance.

Why does it destroy your confidence?

Because I am very sensitive to what others think of me.

Why are you so sensitive to what others think of you?

Response #5: I have poor self-esteem; therefore, it stings when I feel as if I've let people down.

Boom!

Low self-esteem is the core cause of our scenario instances' issues. The objective of their mission (to become what they desire) is to increase their self-esteem, which may be worked on daily.

Step 3: Learn the needed activities

I prefer to think of this phase as creating the bridge between where you are now and where you want to go...

Learning what you need to accomplish is advantageous since you don't have to figure it out on your own.

It's possible that others have already accomplished what you want.

Simply locate them and follow the footprints they left behind.

For instance, if your objective is to get from zero to seven figures in a year with an internet company, you may want to subscribe to Tim Denning's newsletter, which teaches you how to accomplish it in 10 stages.

Don't recreate the wheel; the steps have already been mapped out.

Step 4: Set implementation intentions

Now that you have determined the steps necessary to achieve your goals, you must create intentions to carry them out.

This is referred to as implementation objectives.

They are pledges to undertake an activity at a certain time and place; you describe what you will do, when, and where.

The following is the structure of an implementation intention:

"I will do [ACTION] at [TIME] at [PLACE]."

Let's look at some examples: I will do calisthenics and weighted exercises for one hour each weekday morning before work, from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m., in the gym; I will train using calisthenics and weighted exercises for one hour each weekday morning before work, from Whenever I make a purchase using apple pay, I will record the item's price and description. Daily, from 4 to 6 p.m. at my home office, I will spend two hours creating content for my medium blog.

Intentions for implementation are a safety net on days when your motivation is low...

There will be a few of such days.

Step 5: Review

The first implementation objectives you establish will be based on the tried-and-true methods you have borrowed from individuals who have already attained your goals.

However, they may not work for you.

It is essential to comprehend why systems are so efficient in order to adjust and enhance them properly.

This entails monitoring your development to determine what's working and what's not for you.

For instance, I like to go to the gym in the mornings, when I feel more enthusiastic, but you may choose to go after work.

In this situation, I would suggest keeping track of how you feel after two weeks of morning exercise. Then, follow the same routine in the gym after work.

If you find yourself more energized after work, you should upgrade the system.

Final Reflections

Goals are wonderful for providing a feeling of direction, but they are insufficient to propel you ahead.

You must create a method that permits you to continue working towards your objective even when you lack motivation.

To establish a system, merely:

·         Define your desires

·         Determine why you desire it.

·         Discover the steps you must take.

·         Set implementation intentions

·         Examine the system
