The most ridiculous scientific myths (continued)

Let's continue to dispel the most ridiculous scientific myths!

1st Myth. Don't be nervous: nerve cells do not regenerate...

This statement is still heard, to this day, from almost every doctor. So what is this, brain cells - an object of "scientific" delusion or a deliberate lie?! And it is indeed, a blatant lie! Because there are studies that have shown a process - neurogenesis - that occurs daily in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus and in the subventricular region, forming and sending new nerve cells to needy parts of the brain. And this process doesn't stop during every person's lifetime.

2nd Myth. A coin thrown from a height is dangerous...

What horror stories about what happens if a coin falls on a person from a great height! I hasten to disappoint horror fans, nothing will happen to a man and even in the worst case scenario the "victim" will only have a small bruise on his skin. Because after a couple of seconds of free flight, the air balances the acceleration of the coin in free fall, and it becomes safe.

Myth 3. Meteorites fall to Earth hot...

Entering the Earth's atmosphere, meteorites and spacecraft are red-hot due to friction with it. And this is not true of everything. Objects get hot because of the aerodynamic drag of the medium, that is, the compression of the air around the rushing object. But, meteorites fall to Earth, as a rule, already cooled.

Myth #4. Lightning does not strike twice in the same place...

This is a real fiction or complacency of those who live in high-rise buildings or like to hide during thunderstorms under trees. A building more than 500 meters tall is an excellent target, especially if the building has a spire on top, where lightning can strike twice. And the roofs of buildings can be struck 4-6 times. Trees, especially those that stand alone, are also a great target for lightning.

Myth 5. There is no gravity in space.

I would like to break down another myth about real scientific facts, which states that the lack of gravity in space and on space stations, allows astronauts to float in weightlessness. In fact, everything in the Earth's orbit is not floating, but is falling continuously around it due to gravity. After all, the gravitational force is still the same on the ISS.
