Story

Tesla originally planned for deliveries in early 2014. [18] However, in February 2013, the company announced that deliveries had been rescheduled to the end of 2014 in order to meet its production target of 20,000 Model S vehicles in 2013. [18] 19] In November 2013, Tesla announced that it plans to begin mass production of the Model X in the second quarter of 2015. [20] In November 2014, Tesla postponed again and announced that Model X deliveries would begin in the third quarter of 2015. [21]] Deliveries began on September 29, 2015. Reasons for the delay included problems with falcon wing doors and engine cooling when towing trailers. [22]

In 2016, the company sued the Swiss hydraulic firm Hoerbiger Holding for failing to produce satisfactory falcon wing doors for the Model X. Tesla said the doors suffered from oil leaks and overheating. Many believe this is one of the reasons for the delay in the Model X. [23] The lawsuit was settled in September 2016. [24]

On July 13, 2016, Tesla unveiled its Model X 60D, which is slightly below the starting price of the Model X. The Model X 60D has a range of 200 miles (320 km) and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km / h). in 6 seconds at a top speed of 130 mph (210 km / h). [25] The battery capacity in the X 60D is 75 kWh, but there was a software limit of 60 kWh. Once purchased, owners have the option to unlock an additional 15 kWh, bringing the performance range from 60D to 75D. [26] [27]

Tesla plans to use the Model X platform for the Tesla Minibus. [28]

In August 2016, global sales exceeded 10,000 units, with the majority of vehicles delivered in the United States. [29] In August 2016, Tesla unveiled the P100D with Ludicrous Mode to become the new top-of-the-line X model. The P100D has a 100 kWh battery, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km / h) in 2.9 seconds. (0 to 100 km / h (0 to 62 mph) in 3.1 seconds) and a range of 289 miles (465 km). [30] In October 2016, Tesla discontinued the 60D version and made a standard "smart air suspension" instead of coil springs, increasing the base price to $ 85,000. [31] [32] In June 2017, version 90D was discontinued.

Tesla announced in August 2017 that the HW2.5 includes a secondary processor assembly to provide more processing power and additional wiring redundancy for a slight increase in reliability. it also included DVR and watchdog capabilities. [33] [34] [35]

In March 2018, it was announced that Tesla had updated the MCU to version 2. [36] MCU 2 improved the performance of the 17-inch center console screen.

Worldwide cumulative sales from inception were 106,689 units to September 2018. [14] [37] [38] [39] [40] [41] [42] [43]

Tesla discontinued the 75D in January 2019, making the 100D the base model of the Model X. The base price of the Model X 100D is $ 97,000 as of January 2019. [44] In July 2019, Tesla added a 325-mile EPA Long Range Model X for $ 84,500. [45]
