Tips For Bathing Your Dog At Home

Want to know some helpful tips for at home dog grooming? There will come a time that your going to need to bath your dog at home, regardless of the reasoning for doing so, you will want it to be a pleasant experience for both you and the dog!

So what can you do to make bathing your dog at home easier, and less of a mess?

First you’ll want to start by getting the tub area ready. Getting a towel or two. A good tip is to use a drain/hair catcher.. unless you want to spend more time cleaning out the hair in your drain then you actually spend bathing your dog.

Next, if your dogs picky and doesn’t enjoy baths, try a “lick mat” for peanut butter! They’re absolute life savers! If you don’t have a lick mat you could always just put some peanut butter or yogurt on the wall of your shower/bath to keep them occupied while you wash them.

Another great thing to have on hand for home grooming is a “ squeegee”… they absorb so much water off your dog, they work better than a towel and you can always use a towel afterwards.

Wait and see, it will shock you how much water they take off your dog.

Also have your shampoo on hand in an easy place to grab, your hands will be wet and hairy.

Make sure when your using the shampoo that you start from back of the neck to the tail in a line motion.

If you think your dog may try to sneak out of the tub while you’re washing them, then try attaching their leash to them without clipping it to anything to make them feel like they are leashed.

You can also purchase products that suction to the tub allowing you to loop them In so they can’t jump out while your bathing them.

Another great product to buy is the shower hose sprayer that is on a hose attachment that wraps around your hand and makes it easier to wash your dogs instead of dumping water cup, after cup on them.

Now that your ready, you can start bathing your dog!

When using shampoo,

your going to want to “lather” your dog accordingly to their hair type and size. You will want them to be soapy and have lots of suds, otherwise they’re not really getting a good wash.

If your feeling extra friendly you could even give your dog a nice scrub/rub treatment while you suds up the shampoo on them.

If you feel you need more, then add more, make sure you rinse the shampoo out thoroughly and do not leave any drying on the skin, Rinse it all out.

When your done, keep your dog in the tub Try to squeegee out as much water as you can from your dog. Do it a couple times until you feel satisfied. Now you can towel dry and or wrap your dog up.

If your someone who has a High velocity blow dryer like they use in grooming salons, then go ahead and get blow drying! It’s nice to blow dry in the washroom or An inclosed area so the hair from your dog is not flying all over the house!

Once your dog is completely dry you can then do a nice bush out.

Spray of all choices are options as well. (De matting spray, deodorizing spray, fresh scent spray and more)

Now you should have a clean, fresh smelling happy!
