Tips for moms-to-be who want smart kids

Probably all parents dream that their children, among other advantages, will be intelligent. Today it is scientifically proven that the baby's intelligence depends not only on genetics, but also on what the mother ate during pregnancy. So we can contribute to the birth of a clever boy or a smart girl. Especially since there is nothing special, super-expensive or exotic for this eat and do not need.
You want a genius - eat right

Everyone knows that a woman in expectation of a child should eat a varied and balanced diet. It turns out that this is good not only for the health and general well-being of the mother and baby, but also for the development of intellectual abilities of the fetus. So what foods are necessary for the baby's brain?

1. Fish (mostly salmon species), nuts, kiwi, flax seeds, olive oil, red and black caviar.

All of these foods are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for the brain. After all, it is made up of 60% fat cells. So be sure to have polyunsaturated fats in your diet, and consume saturated fats as little as possible. During pregnancy, the daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids should be from 300 to 1000 mg. This is the amount that will ensure the proper formation of the child's brain.

2. Chicken and quail eggs (especially yolks), sprouted wheat, cabbage, spinach and dairy products (including cottage cheese).

They all contain choline, which is good for the nervous system and memory. Lack of choline is detrimental to your child's mental development.

3. red or black (purple) berries, late-ripening apples, parsley, pomegranates, citrus fruits, vegetables, and seaweed.

These foods are high in antioxidants, which are also needed for proper fetal brain formation. The expectant mother should eat at least 80 to 100 grams of berries per day and be sure to add vegetables to the menu.

4. Meat, fish, dairy products, legumes.

Protein is necessary for brain. They are responsible for long-term memory, without which the study turns into a hard labor and a source of constant frustration.

5. Meat by-products, poultry, dairy products, cheese.

Lack of iron and vitamins B9 and B12 threatens serious damage to the brain. So do not forget to eat foods containing these substances. And do not take folic acid, which is prescribed to pregnant women, lightly. It is it reduces the risk of abnormal development of the nervous system of the baby by more than 70%. And the brain is nothing but the central nervous system.

6. Cabbage, rice, potatoes, buckwheat, pumpkin, carrots, bananas.

The most common glucose known to everyone is extremely necessary for productive intellectual activity. This is the fuel on which the brain "works". The "consumption" of glucose is amazing: 6 grams per hour! Given that the brain is about 2% of the body weight of an adult, it is the brain that "appropriates" 20% of the energy that we get with food and the same amount of oxygen that we breathe in. The brain of children is even more "voracious", so the energy consumption of the brain of newborn infants sometimes reaches 60%, while normally it is twice as much as that of an adult.

Important! Expectant mothers should understand that irregular meals or missed meals lead to a drop in glucose levels. That is why it is necessary to eat small portions, but often. Only in this way, but not by piling on the sweets, you will be able to provide your baby with a continuous supply of glucose in the required quantity. And so the brain of the baby will receive such a necessary "fuel".

All these products should be present in the diet of pregnant women regularly, not from time to time. Pay attention to the fact that each point mentions products from different price segments, so that future moms with any income level will be able to pick a suitable diet for themselves. So having smart children is not a preference only for the wealthy in our society.
What else can affect the intelligence of the child?Scientists believe that in addition to proper nutrition, other factors also contribute to the birth of intelligent babies:

1. High level of intelligence in the mother.

But the father's influence is much less. However, if both parents-to-be have a high IQ, or they had ancestors with outstanding mental abilities, then the probability of giving birth to a genius increases.

2. Not only the mother's natural giftedness, but also her level of education, trained brain, and developed logic.

This may seem unbelievable, but solving crossword puzzles, memorizing poems and prose during pregnancy is very useful for the development of the baby's brain.

The optimal age for the mother.

Studies show that children born to mothers of 19-28 years more often demonstrate natural intelligence and ingenuity. So it's not advisable to postpone having children "until later".

4. Natural birth without complications.

The calmer and more safely was the childbirth, the less was the doctors' intervention during it, the more chances the child has later on to demonstrate a high intellectual level.

5. Prolonged breastfeeding.

Supporters of artificial feeding can argue as much as they want, but Canadian researchers who observed 17 thousand (!) children from birth to six years have clearly proved that the longer the baby was breastfed, the more successfully he subsequently coped with the proposed tests, and the higher levels of intelligence exhibited.

Of course, no one claims that children of mothers over 28 years, who were born by cesarean section to parents who do not have exorbitant IQ, and who were artificially fed from birth, will necessarily be slow thinking, but if you are determined to have a child with a high intellect, we advise you to heed these recommendations. You may see that in twenty years, and will grow a whole generation with abilities far above average. And we will be glad to know that we also had a hand in it.
