The area of this U.S. landmark is abundantly covered with trees, however, as well as everything around Crater. And the smallest island is named "Ghost Ship." This island is practically empty. Only a few trees grow on it.

 

No less interesting sight for tourists is the "Old Man of the Lake". This is a part of the trunk of a tree, which for more than 50 years is moving around the pond in different directions. At the same time it is not in a horizontal position, as is often the case, but in a vertical position. The floating trunk is about 9 meters long. Most of it is located underwater, and only 1 m, visible to the human eye. The thickness of the "old man" is about 60 cm. The log is virtually indestructible. All this is due to the fact that the water in the lake is quite cold, just like the air itself. Its upper part has a whitish ash color. This is probably the reason why the trunk got such an unusual name.

 

Isle Royal Park
