U.S. congressman visiting Ukraine talks about Zelensky's request

U.S. Congressman Jason Crowe, who visited Kiev, spoke on NBC about the request of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

Crowe claims that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky voiced his request to the delegation that visited Ukraine last week, and she passed it on to U.S. President Joe Biden.

According to him, the Ukrainian leader asked his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden to provide Kiev with anti-ship missiles to secure Ukrainian ports in order to export food.

Crowe added that the Ukrainian authorities also expect to receive reusable drones with precision-guided munitions. He noted that Kiev has also asked Washington for multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

The congressman stressed that the Ukrainian side is interested in Harpoon anti-ship missiles, or similar weapons, with which Kiev would be able to ensure the use of the port in Odessa and other cities.

One of the biggest problems for Ukraine, he said, is its inability to continue exporting food. "They have 12 million tons of food, wheat grain, sunflower oil lying around, and these supplies are needed both for the Ukrainian economy and in order to, prevent famine in Africa and the Middle East in particular," he said.

In late April, it became known that U.S. President Joe Biden intends to send Ukraine a new batch of military aid worth $800 million. These funds envisage the transfer of artillery systems, shells and armored personnel carriers, as well as additional helicopters to Kiev.

Earlier, Biden will make a statement on the situation in Ukraine at the Lockheed Martin weapons factory, which manufactures Javelin missile systems.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for assistance from the heads of the LNR and DNR.

The decision to conduct the operation became the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
