Ways to reduce kitchen costs

  1. Proper exchange of household essentials: By grouping different shops like paddy traders, fish traders, oil traders, spice traders etc., understand that if you buy essential items like paddy, fish, oil, spices at one place, you can invest more and reduce the price.

  2. Buy from local markets: When you buy vegetables, fish or meat from local markets, you can save more on the price. Generally the products are available more cheaply in the local market as the middle-ware means that the customs and transportation charges do not have to be changed.

  3. Observe in vegetables and fruits: Observe while buying vegetables and fruits and try to buy better quality products. Suppose you are buying tomatoes. If five tomatoes are available in the market for one rupee, then why would you try to buy more tomatoes since that one tomato is good quality and healthy? Observing while buying will give an idea about the market price of the product and the quality of the product.

  4. Use real ingredients: Real ingredients like rice, oil, masala, spices, gram flour, sweet potato, etc. are available cheaply and can be presented quickly in an environmentally friendly manner, thereby eliminating the need to purchase large quantities of compact packet ingredients.

  5. Use methods to preserve food: Using methods to properly preserve vegetables, meat or fish, fruits etc. will ensure that more produce is available in the market and remains unripe. The means can be butter, sugar, white sugar, wooden brackets, fridge etc.

  6. Use food items properly: By using food items properly in the kitchen, you can reduce extra costs in the market. Avoid the misuse of unnecessary food items and use modern technology for food storage, like composting with mushroom leaves.

  1. Plan meals and make a grocery list: Plan your meals for the week and make a detailed grocery list before going to the store. This will help you avoid impulse purchases and make sure you have what you need to reduce food waste and unnecessary spending.

  2. Buy in bulk: Consider buying non-perishable items, such as rice, pasta, grains and spices in bulk. Buying in bulk often provides better value for money than buying smaller packages.

  3. Batch cook and prepare meals: Cook large quantities of food and store in meal-sized portions. This will not only save you time but also prevent the need to order takeout or eat in, which can be more expensive.

  4. Use leftovers creatively: Instead of throwing leftovers away, find creative ways to incorporate them into new dishes. For example, leftover fried chicken can be used in sandwiches or salads, and overripe fruit can be used in smoothies or baked goods. This helps reduce food wastage and maximizes material utilization.

  5. Grow your own herbs and vegetables: Even if you have limited space, consider starting a small herb or vegetable garden. Growing your own produce can be cost-effective and provide you with fresh ingredients at your fingertips.

  6. Compare prices and avail discounts: Before shopping, compare prices across different stores or online platforms. Check out sales, discounts or coupons to save money on your grocery shopping.

  7. Use energy-efficient cooking methods: Choose energy-efficient cooking methods like using a pressure cooker, slow cooker or microwave oven, which use less electricity than conventional ovens or stovetops. This can help lower your utility bills over time.

  8. Reduce water usage: Be aware of your water usage while cooking. Use only the amount of water needed for boiling or steaming, and consider reusing leftover water for watering plants or cleaning.

  9. Practice proper kitchen maintenance: Maintain and clean your kitchen appliances and utensils regularly. Proper maintenance extends their lifespan, reducing the need for frequent replacement or repair.

Remember, small changes to your cooking and shopping habits can add up to significant savings over time.
