What independence truly means ? Are we really independent

As India is going on to celebrate its 75th Independence day, the most popular recent topic of discussion amongst people is related to this. So, lets just start and try to convey real meaning to others.

As we all know that India got independence on 15th August 1974. It took many years for this and perhaps a number of people have risked their lives and many great national heros have even sacrificed their lives for this struggle in order to give us their freedom. But most of the people doesn't really understant the meaning underlined in the word ' Independence'. They mistakenly take it as just a country free from Britishers and a democracy.

But to be truethful, it is incomplete. Independece jut doesn't means freedom and democracy. Infact it considers many thoughts. Independence means freedom to live according to ourself. It means freedom to learn. It means freedom to work. It means freedom to speak against wrong deeds in society. It means freedom to express oneself. It means equality. It means freedom from discrimination and many such more aspects.

We got independence. But are we really independent? India is a democratic country but are all citizens residing here free? Lets us think by ourself. Even in many places of India, we come across a variety of discrimintions based on ones looks, colour, gender, caste, creed, religion, occupation, income, social position and many such other factors.

Even though Indian constiuition, which is the largest and one of the best drafted constitution in the world, we have freedom to live as per ourself, right to education, right to equality, right to work, right to speech, right to informtion, etc a large number of population suffers from discrimination, inequality, social prejudice and many more inethical, immoral practices which needs to be stopped soon. In many rural places of India, girls are not send to school and married at a very young age. For this Indian government has granted scholrships for girls and even started camapaigns like ' Beti bachao, Beti padhao' but many people are still following the old traditions. similarly, many girls in India are married ata very young age against their will and by breaking goverment laws. is this freedom? Are such girls really free? Can we say that they are indepeendent?

Many people face discrimination in India based on their caste and creed. Are they free to travel everywhere? Are they independent. Even educated people discriminate amongst other. Rich people discrimate with poors. Is this what we call freedom? Is this independence. Every individual has a right to work ,earn livelihood and live on his/ her conditions. But in India, many women are not allowed to go out of heir homes and work. They need to remain dependent on males of their family. They are discriminated. Women are considered to be made for 'hearth and birth'. In this case, are they independent?

The great Indian constitution has guranteed all rights, but we people are still following the old practises. It is 21st century, and the time to shine. Lets just breaks all walls of discrination and each of ous contribute for development and wellbeing of our nation. Our future lies in our hands.
