What is the difference between cold coffee and cold brew and nitro coffee? And which drink is healthier

Iced Coffee

The recipe for the classic Iced coffee is simple. It is brewed in the usual way: with a coffee machine, in a French press or take regular instant coffee, and then add milk or ice cream and lots of ice. Some people wait until the drink cools on its own, and then add syrup, tonic or whipped cream.

The demand for ice coffee increases closer to summer: in the heat of the day, the cool drink is ideal for quenching thirst and giving energy for the day.

Cold brew.

Noticing that people appreciated the taste of cold coffee, baristas decided to include another way of preparing it in the menu - brewing it without heat treatment. Already in XVII century enterprising Dutchmen infused coffee drink on cold water. This method was adopted by the Japanese and later spread throughout Europe by the French.

But cold brew became so popular only at the end of the 60-s when a representative of a Swiss company did the following: he mixed coffee grounds with cold water in a glass and this was the origin of frappe.

A little later, an enterprising American took care of his wife, who could not tolerate beverages with high acidity. While traveling through Chile, he found an interesting recipe for coffee in Peru. The locals brewed their coffee with cold water, then filtered and heated it, making it richer and less acidic. So the same American named Todd Simpson invented the "Toddy" machine to make cold brew to the delight of his wife and millions of coffee lovers.

Cold brewing makes coffee mild without the bitterness and sour aftertaste of the hot version. Chain stores quickly picked up the cold brew trend and began to offer their customers cold brewed kold bruh.

Nowadays the same ingredients are used for its preparation: ground beans, cold water and optional sweet syrup. It can take up to 12 hours at room temperature or 24 hours in the fridge to infuse it with a full-bodied flavour. Before serving, strain the drink, add the sweet syrup and ice as desired, and the cold brew is ready. Minimal effort for maximum flavor.

Tip

Cooked Cold Brew can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. So feel free to stock up on coffee and drink a delicious and invigorating drink every day.

Nitro Coffee

Nitro means "nitrogen" in English. It is the same as cold brew, only saturated with nitrogen.

A special station, borrowed from the beer industry, fills cold coffee with nitrogen. This gives the drink bubbles and a velvety-sweet taste. Nitro coffee is stored in kegs and poured through a special bar dispenser - this method of brewing in a glass looks like beer with an avalanche effect.

The benefits and harms of iced coffee

For several years now, iced coffee has been proving capable of taking its place under the sun. And experts and nutritionists are increasingly talking about its positive qualities:

The obvious plus is the quick refreshing effect.

Reduced acidity of the product, that is, such a drink can afford even those who often suffer from heartburn.

Fast diuretic effect - excess fluid is not retained in the body.

Raises your mood.

Stimulates brain function and increases attentiveness.

Improves the metabolism - the caffeine in the composition helps to burn calories at rest.

But there is one disadvantage: the use of coffee drinks in large quantities negatively affects the stomach, the central nervous and cardiovascular systems. You can consume no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day, on average no more than four cups a day.
