whatsapp reactions to new messages

How to use reactions to new posts?

WhatsApp is the most widely used instant messaging application in the world. The platform has invested in adding new features for its users to maintain its popularity. One of the most anticipated so far was the reactions to messages, a feature that was already present in Messenger and Facebook, the social networks of the Meta universe. In this article, we'll show you how you can use the new message reactions.

Update to the latest version

First, it should be remembered that the function is only available in the latest version of the application. So, if you are still not seeing quick reaction emojis in the WhatsApp app, make sure you are using the latest version. To do this, you can simply enter your mobile app store — Play Store on Android and App Store on iOS — and check that “Update” is allowed.

Make sure you are using the latest version of WhatsApp

If only have the option “Open“, then you already have the latest version of the messenger and you can continue with the step-by-step that we are going to show you below.

How to Use Message Reactions on WhatsApp?

Currently, message reactions have six different emojis that can be used in messages. Are they:

  • 👍

  • ❤️

  • 😂

  • 😮

  • 😢

  • 🙏

According to the app development team, more emoji options are expected to be added in the future, possibly with customization options for each user. In other words, everyone can create their favorite reactions.

As in other social networks, such as Telegram, and Facebook Messenger itself, these emojis appear at the bottom of the selected message to react. It's worth remembering, though, that for the feature to work the way you want, both phones need to be up to date. This means that the sender and the receiver of the reaction must have the latest version of WhatsApp installed, whether Android or iOS, as we have shown in the previous topic.

Select the message and choose which emoji best describes your reaction. Once selected, a thumbnail of that emoji will appear at the bottom of the message bubble.

1. Open a group or personal chat, then select a message. To select, hold your finger under the desired message bubble;

2. Shortly after, a table with the six reaction emojis will open. Select the desired option by touching the screen;

3. The reaction emoji will appear right below the message.

Ready, your contact will receive your reaction to this message! If you change your mind and want to remove the reaction, tap the message again. If you want to change the reaction, just repeat the above step-by-step.

To remove your reaction, select the message again.

And no WhatsApp Web?

For now, reactions to WhatsApp messages can only be used in the mobile version of the messenger. The good news is that Meta, the company responsible for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is already carrying out tests to implement the novelty on WhatsApp Web. We just have to wait!

Although it is not possible to insert reactions to messages via WhatsApp Web, it is already possible to view the reactions inserted by the application on the mobile phone.
