Analyst Min-Chi Kuo made a prediction, according to which in ten years the iPhone will cease to be the main product of Apple. It will be replaced by an augmented reality headset, which will turn from an accessory into a full-fledged gadget. Are smartphones really living out their last years?
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that in the near future, Apple's main device instead of the iPhone will be an AR headset. According to Kuo, quoted by 9to5Mac, it may happen within the next ten years. One of the reasons for such a step is the course of the head of the company Tim Cook on the diversification of income Apple.
Thus, for several years the company has been expanding its presence on the market by introducing new services, among which there started to appear software - streaming service Apple TV +, Apple Arcade and many others. It was previously reported that Tim Cook would retire only after finishing the main product of his life - and allegedly this product is the augmented reality headset that is being prepared for production.
"Apple's goal is to replace the iPhone with AR within ten years, as demand for augmented reality headsets will exceed at least one billion units in ten years," Kuo is convinced.
At the same time, he notes that the headset will become a standalone gadget and will not need to be tied to a smartphone for it to work - that's the only way Apple AR can become a successful product.
"If the AR headset is positioned only as an accessory for Mac or iPhone - it will not contribute to the growth of the product. An AR headset that works independently of other devices will provide the most complete and flexible user experience," the analyst reasoned.
Earlier, the president of Qualcomm, which produces processors and modems for mobile gadgets, Christiano Amon said that the familiar to many smartphones will become a thing of the past in 2022. He is also confident that they will be replaced by AR headsets, or AR glasses - such devices are either already present in the product lines of IT giants or are in active development.
"These will be the gadgets of the future that will change the human social experience. And the technology for this is already there," said Qualcomm's president.
