Where do diamonds and diamonds come from?

Greetings my dear friends and subscribers ✌

Diamond is an incredibly hard mineral, in fact the hardest found in nature. It is formed at depths of hundreds of kilometers, where under tremendous pressure and temperatures of thousands of degrees, a substance is formed from ordinary carbon, whose atoms create an incredibly dense crystal lattice. But diamond also has a weakness - the hardest material in the world is quite easy to crumble. Simply put, you can't squeeze a diamond, but if you hit it with another hard object, it will shatter.

Diamonds can stay at their depths for millions of years, until the Earth's crust breaks apart and the liquid, red-hot magma carries them closer to the surface. These outbursts from the bowels of our planet are called kimberlite pipes and are used to mine diamonds. To date, it is technologically impossible to dig a mine 100 kilometers deep, but a few kilometers deep is no problem. Moreover, kimberlite pipes often come to the surface, in which case they are mined using the open-pit method, digging a huge open pit (for example, in the village of Mirny in Yakutia, where the pit is 525 meters deep and 1,200 meters wide).

But why are diamonds so valuable? It is not only because of their strength and durability, but also because of their optical properties. This is because when light passes and refracts through a stone, it forms very beautiful and clear colors. Most stones are transparent, but in nature there are also blue, yellow, red, golden, and even green stones.

Before a diamond can be used in precious jewelry, it is treated by giving it a symmetrical shape and polishing it. A treated diamond is called a diamond. Tiny diamonds, weighing only a few grams, can cost a pretty obscene amount of money. And if they are inlaid into precious jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings), they can be worth tens of millions of dollars.

So the secret of diamonds is simple: rarity and beauty. And in the rays of bright light, even a small diamond will sparkle and shimmer, attracting everyone's attention
