Which actions actually significantly reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection, and which ones do not Finnish scientists told this
It turns out that not all popular methods of protection against the coronavirus work really well. However, researchers at VTT found that there is one extremely effective way to avoid infection. Read about it in this Yle article.
What actions actually significantly reduce the risk of getting infected with COVID-19 and what actions don't
The VTT research center informs that ventilating the rooms will reduce the risk of becoming infected with COVID-19. The risk can easily be reduced by 90 percent. After airing the room is safe for two hours. But in a poorly ventilated room, a person can catch the coronavirus in just a few minutes.
According to scientist Aku Karvinen, while breathing, singing or talking a person leaves small particles in the air. The smallest of them disappear only after ventilation or air change. The most dangerous thing is that such particles can stay in the air for several minutes or hours. In addition to ventilation, you can get rid of viruses with ventilation.
But social distance is not as effective as previously thought. The fact is that, for example, in shopping malls there may be certain rooms with dangerous levels of viral particles. That's why experts recommend wearing masks with FFP2 and FFP3 protection classes in public places. The problem is that a dangerous cloud of virus can be several meters wide as well as long. In other words, it can be more than the 1.5 to 2 meters that social distance talks about.
