Why are fish given antidepressants?

Greetings my dear friends and subscribers ✌

It has been scientifically proven that depression is an illness, not just a bad mood due to boredom or prolonged minor annoyances. The state of our psyche depends on the substances produced by the brain, and any malfunction in this complex chemical factory can lead to the fact that a person literally becomes unable to get up from the couch (although by all indications will be perfectly healthy).

Everything that pleased the sick person back in the day will not evoke any emotion at all today. Habitual motives stop working and all meanings disappear, life becomes gray and uninteresting. It is important to recognize depression and seek professional help in time, and in no case accuse such a person of laziness, lack of initiative and boredom.

Pharmacology fights depression with the help of antidepressants, which, like any medication, has a period of testing and effectiveness determination. Usually such studies are conducted on laboratory mice, but recently some laboratories have used zebrafish for this purpose.

The fact is that, like ours, the fish brain uses dopamine and serotonin to regulate behavior, so depression is a likely condition for any fish. Such a fish usually stops actively swimming, falling into apathy. And if depression occurs in the leader of a fish flock, then all its members risk getting into serious trouble! Therefore, the fish turned out to be a great option for the initial testing of new drugs. In addition, they are much easier and cheaper to breed than laboratory mice.

So, if you think that the fish in your aquarium are sad, you can try to go to the nearest pharmacy!

Thank you all for your attention to my publications, I hope you liked it, come again.

Sincerely Eduard!
