Since Nigeria became a sovereign nation in 1960, there has been no improvement in the area of agriculture, tourism, infrastructural development and so forth.
This is because the country has been poorly governed and mismanages its resources by our leaders who lack the political will; to move the nation forward.
According to www.theguardian.com, the unity and existence of this nation is being threatened by insecurity, corrupt political institution, weak economy and poor social welfare.
The Nigeria government has failed to protect its citizens. There have been persistent killings of innocent citizens in every nook and cranny of the country.
The Islamic sect popularly known as Boko Haram has rendered most people homeless in the north east due to incessant attacked on the helpless Nigerians.
Bandits and Fulani herdsmen have also been terrorizing most people thereby resulting to maiming, killings and kidnapping for ransom.
On February 20th 2021, it was reported that 22 students and five staff of Greener Private University in Kaduna state were kidnapped by armed bandits.
They later killed five students and one staff. On January 13th 2022, 4 students of Federal University in Nasarawa state were kidnapped by unknown gunmen at a community in Mararaba campus.
It is saddening to note that on March 25th 2022, bandits attacked Kaduna Airport and killed the watch guard of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
On March 28th 2022, bandits launched another attacked on a train moving from Abuja to Kaduna along Katari, a few kilometre away to Rigasa station.
Over 60 passengers were killed, many were kidnapped, and several others were injured. No parts of the entire country are safe.
Many people have been living in fear due to security challenges. The security personnel cannot stem the tide due to lack of sophisticated weapons.
The political institution is very corrupt. This is because those politicians that were elected to represent the people are not doing the right thing.
Money budgeted for developmental purposes have been diverted for their own selfish interest. They have lost focus and integrity to improve the lives of the citizens.
They have forgotten that they were elected to represent their constitutes so as to make laws for the betterment of the country.
As a result of this, the citizens are looking up to private institutions to deliver them from political apocalypse.
Over the years, there has been no improvement in the economy. This is as a result of bad leadership.
There are no good road networks, no stable electricity, no good health care facilities and so many other facilities. We live in a country where our leaders cannot rise up to the occasion.
The system is not working to ameliorate the suffering of the people. This is because our leaders have no ideas on making things work.
Also, the economy is down due to the inability of the government to provide stable power supply and critical infrastructural facilities across the country.
The Nigeria government has also failed to provide the citizens with the basic needs in life. There is no social security system put in place.
The citizens are left to suffer and die in penury. All hope has been lost since the government cannot perform its social responsibility.
The problem of insecurity, corrupt political institution, weak economy and poor social welfare has clearly shows that Nigeria is a failed state.
Kadiri Saliu,
