Why the internet is divided over a simple math equation

The internet is in an uproar over a math equation that's been circulating through social media with the claim that it could explain why most people are good, and some are bad.

The most divisive topic ever to grace our internet is the simple math equation that many believe is more important than anything else.

It’s an old math problem that bothers many, including world-class mathematicians. It goes like this: If you have four apples, then the amount of apples is equal to the amount of oranges—that is, four apples = 4 oranges.

The internet is split over a simple math equation.

  • But if you have only one apple—either because it was dropped or taken away—then there are still only three items total in your basket. Even though there are three items left over from a delivery of four, you still end up with two fewer items. This little algebra problem has engaged people for decades and has led to controversy at times.

The online world is full of people who think they're smarter than everyone else, but even the most well-educated of us fall into the trap of expressing our opinions in a way that only supporters can understand. The internet divides over a simple math equation.

The internet has become very divided over a math equation.

  • Whether you think it’s genius or crazy, there’s no arguing that this equation has changed the way we live. We asked you to solve it and now we’re going to explain why the internet is divided over a simple math equation.

Why is internet divided over a simple math equation?

  • When you see a group of people united in a belief and passionate about something, it’s easy to see why. But when there’s conflict over something as seemingly simple as a math equation, and there are people on both sides with opposing beliefs.

This is a simple equation, but it has caused an uproar!

We know that the internet is a place of debate and discussion, but sometimes it's less about outcomes and more about what we're saying to one another. In these cases, it's important to remember that every viewpoint deserves an applause. The internet is an amazing place where people can come together to discuss topics as varied as The Red Badge of Courage to the existence of unicorns. It's one of my favorite things about the platform, so I want to celebrate it -- even when other users disagree with me.

Most of us use math in our daily lives, but when it comes to solving simple equations, the internet seems split. Is there any way to resolve this debate?
