WHAT IS SAFFRON? 

Saffron comes from the flower of crocus sativus ( also known as saffron crocus). More specifically from its stigma and style. 

ABOUT SAFFRON

SMELL:- strong, leathery, soft, earthy, hay like remainding slightly of rubber. The scent comes from the chemical compounds of picrocrocin and saffranal. 

APPEARANCE :- saffron threads are trumpet shaped. If a thread does not bulge at one end. It is a fake. If you rub real saffron between you fingers, your skin will turn a yellow/orange.

SEASON FOR SAFFRON FARMING

#saffron corns are grown in india between the months of june and jully,as well as August and September in some areas. 

#In October, it begins to flowers. 

#In the summer, it requires intense heat and dryness, while in the winter, it requires extreme cold. 

#winter in area of karnatka, himachal paradesh, and jammu and kashmir provide the best condition for development. 

CLIMATE FOR SAFFRON CULTIVATION 

Saffron is grown primarilly in sunken and dry places with elevations ranging from 1500 to 2500 meters above sea level. It requires a 12 hern photo period, which has several advantages but also slow down the flowering process. 

SOIL FOR SAFFRON FRAMING 

One of the most important aspects of saffron growing is the soil. It thrives no loamy, sandy, and calcareous soils, A gravelly soil is also excellent for saffron farming, how ever a heavy, clayey soil ids not. 

Saffron grows best on acidic soil. It thrivea well when pH of soil is around 5.5 to 8.5

HARVEST SAFFRON

# Saffron crocus flower are ready to be harvested mid -to- late autumn. The flower must be harvested by hand 

#The stigma strands are dried under the sun for five to six days and then it is packed in air tight container.
