Youtube Officially Stops Creating Original Content

At the time of Netflix's heyday with its original content, YouTube had tried to pursue this success by launching YouTube Originals. Even so, YouTube through its Chief Business Officer, Robert Kyncl, announced they were no longer continuing the YouTube Original division. YouTube Originals itself aims as a channel for the Google company to produce and broadcast original content from them such as series, educational videos, and music and celebrity programs.

"With rapid growth, new opportunities have emerged and now our investments can make a bigger impact on more creators when applied to other initiatives," explains Kyncl.

Through a statement on his Twitter account, Kyncl said some of these initiatives include the Creator Shorts Fund, the Black Voices Fund, and the Live Shopping program.

Leave Company Starting March.

YouTube Originals was created in 2016 and is led by Susanne Daniels. They started with creator-focused shows and films like the comedy thriller series Scare PewDiePie. The company then began moving to ad-supported content featuring celebrities such as Katy Perry and Kevin Hart, which was made free to users without a subscription. In a statement, Kyncl also announced that he and Daniels would be leaving the company starting in March which also contributed to the decision to reduce the division.

"Going forward, we will only fund programs that are part of our Black Voices and YouTube Kids Fund," Kyncl wrote.

"We value our commitment to a progressing event contract and the creators involved there who are expected to contact us directly in the coming days."

Some YouTube Originals Content.

The most popular shows from YouTube Originals include the documentary series Justin Bieber: Seasons, the comedy Liza On Demand, and Cobra Kai which eventually made its way to Netflix. YouTube Originals also makes several music programs that include Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, Camilo and Lewis Capaldi in Released. Several live streaming concerts were also shown such as shows by Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Paul MacCartney and Andrea Bocelli. Last fall, YouTube also streamed Best Shape of My Life, an unscripted show from actor Will Smith's fitness journey. Youtube will make other programs in the future and make it available for free via an ad-supported model as most of the supposedly expensive originals won't last long.
