Zebra cake at home

He earned universal love for the simplicity of the recipe and excellent taste. Even the cooking process itself is a pleasure. In the final stage, it resembles meditation and calms the nerves by contemplating slowly diverging concentric circles. Cooking "Zebra" is within the power of a pastry chef with the most minimal skills. A variety of recipes allows everyone to choose the most suitable taste for themselves.
Recipe "Classic"
Important! For work, it is highly desirable to have a mixer. We'll have to beat the eggs. Without automation, this process is tedious and complex. The pleasure of anticipating the result of the work is broken by monotonous and monotonous movements for a long time. Parchment paper will be needed. To bake a classic Zebra cake at home, you need a packet of butter weighing 200 grams. The same amount of sugar, flour and sour cream.
To the basic ingredients will be added:
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
The butter must be softened before mixing.
The process begins by beating the eggs. They are beaten in a separate container, sugar is added and the mixer is turned on. The result should be a delicate white foam. Set aside the mixer and carbonate the baking soda in the sour cream. We continue to work with the mixer. Reduce its speed and gradually add flour, sour cream and butter to the container. You get a homogeneous dough, resembling the consistency of a thick sour cream. We divide it into two parts. Add a couple spoons of cocoa powder. In the second part, add the same amount of flour. Prepare a form for baking a cake. At the bottom lay a sheet of parchment paper. Grease the walls with butter.
Pour the dough in the middle of the container with one color. Try to get it in the middle of the mold. This is done so that the product spreads evenly to the edges of the container. After a short period of time, the dough will spread into a "pancake". The next step, in the middle of the pancake, put the dough of a different color. (with another spoon). Under its weight, it will sink slightly to the bottom of the container, and then begin to spread to the edges, pushing a ring of contrasting color in front of it. It should be remembered that all portions of dough should be approximately the same volume. If you throw one spoonful at a time - the lines will be thin. If 2-3, the lines will be more contrasting and clear. The process resembles the formation of circles on water. Only instead of a stone, we throw the dough in the middle of the container, alternating its colors. We use all the dough. Then the container is placed in an oven heated to 200 ᵒC. The temperature is reduced to 140 ᵒC. Bake the Zebra cake in the oven for one hour. To heat evenly and not crack the cake, you can cover the top of the baking tray with a sheet of foil. Remove the foil 15-20 minutes before the end of the process.
Frosting - a delicious cake decoration
Knowing how to bake a zebra cake is half the battle. You have to make it look as attractive on the outside as it does on the inside. While the cake is baking in the oven, you can prepare the icing to decorate it. There is enough time to prepare it and cool it. To simplify the work, a bar of dark chocolate can be used as an initial raw material. It is broken up, add 4 tablespoons of milk and a tablespoon of butter. You should mix everything and heat it until it becomes liquid. When the mixture is homogeneous, place the container in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes. After cooling, we put the glaze on top of the "Zebra".
You can make the frosting using cocoa. You will need:
6 Tablespoons sugar.
The same amount of cocoa powder
100g of butter
15 tablespoons milk
Mix all the ingredients (except the butter) in a metal bowl. To avoid the formation of lumps we sift the cocoa powder through a sieve. Place the mixture on a low flame and heat while stirring vigorously. It is necessary to achieve a liquid homogeneous consistency. Remove the glaze from the fire and immediately add butter. It is necessary for further hardening and giving a delicate creamy taste.After cooling, we apply the glaze on top of the "Zebra".
Painting the top layer
A simple toothpick will help make a beautiful pattern on the surface. After you finish pouring the dough into the container, draw lines connecting the middle to the edges. If all movements start from the middle, the finished pattern will resemble a grid of spider webs. By alternating the strokes (from the middle to the edge and vice versa) at the top of the cake will form a semblance of a flower. For the petals to be complete, the number of lines must be even.
To make it you will need:
300 gr. sugar.
250 gr. flour
200 gr. sour cream
100 gr. vegetable oil
5 eggs (homemade, if possible)
1 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking soda
The first thing we do is to beat the sugar with the eggs until the grains are completely dissolved.
In the same bowl add sour cream and vegetable oil. Mix the flour with the baking soda and sift through a sieve to prevent the formation of lumps.
Divide the mixture into two parts. In one of them pour the cocoa and mix thoroughly.
The next steps are traditional:
grease the mold
Fill it alternating colors of dough
Place in preheated oven at 200 C and bake for 40 minutes.
While the cake is in the oven make the sour cream.
Whisk the sour cream with the sugar until it has completely dissolved. (The process is simplified if powdered sugar is used instead of sour cream). Place the product in the refrigerator for half an hour.
Ready (slightly cooled) cake cake cut into 2-3 parts horizontally.
Fill it with icing. The recipes are above. For decoration, you can sprinkle the top with coconut shavings or strips of white chocolate.
For 2-3 hours we send "Zebra" for final hardening in the fridge.
