5 Highest Mountains in Indonesia Located in Papua, Unmistakably Called Indonesia's Paradise

Jayawijaya Mountains is a famous mountain in Indonesia. This mountain range is located in Papua. Consisting of many strung mountains, Jayawijaya is lined up as the highest mountain in Indonesia with the highest peak being Puncak Jaya, friends.

Besides Puncak Jaya, there are four other peaks which are also among the highest peaks in Indonesia. Here are the 5 highest mountains in Indonesia, all of which are members of the Jayawijaya Mountains.

PUNCAK JAYA

The most famous of the Jayawijaya Mountains is of course Puncak Jaya. This mountain is the highest mountain in Indonesia with an altitude of 4,884 meters above sea level located in Papua, as well as being included in the top seven highest peaks in the world.

Puncak Jaya was first conquered in 1909 by a climber from the Netherlands named Hendrikus Albertus Lorentz named Dayak people totaling six people.

This mountain previously had the name Carstensz Pyramid because it was "discovered" by Jan Carstenszoon, a Dutchman who was exploring and saw a mountain covered in snow even though the weather was so sunny and hot.

PUNCAK MANDALA

Below Puncak Jaya is Puncak Mandala as the second highest mountain in Indonesia. Having a height of 4,760 meters above sea level, Puncak Mandala is famous for being a mountain that is difficult to conquer so not just anyone can climb it.

This mountain located in Papua was given the nickname Julianna which was again created by the Dutch who used to explore in Papua. Puncak Mandala also has a fairly thick snow glacier like Puncak Jaya. However, these glaciers are thinning due to climate change.

PUNCAK TRIKORA

Trikora peak has a height of 4,730 meters above sea level. That said, Puncak Trikora is more difficult to conquer than Puncak Jaya, friend. Mila, the first female climber to conquer Trikora, agreed with this fact in 2018.

As the third highest mountain in Indonesia, Trikora Peak has the lowest temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. Like the condition of the mountains located in the Jayawijaya Mountains, the snow conditions on Trikora Peak are also getting eroded due to global warming.

PUNCAK PILIMSIT

Mount Ngga Pilimsit is also known as Mount Idenberg. This mountain, which is the 4th highest in Indonesia, has a height of 4,673 meters above sea level. With the Ngga Pilimsit, Papua has succeeded in placing its five highest mountains as the highest mountains in Indonesia.

PUNCAK YAMIN

Yamin Peak has a height of 4,535 meters above sea level. Being part of the Jayawijaya Mountains, Yamin Peak was first climbed in 2018 by a climbing group called Wanadri. However, getting to the top is still too difficult because only a few climbers have managed to conquer this peak.

In 1913, Puncak Yamin was named Prins Hendrik-top. At that time, at the top of this mountain there was snow which was later named "eternal snow". However, now the snow has melted and no longer exists on the Yamin Peak.

Wow, all five of them have a height of over 4,500 meters above the sea, yes, friend. Because of its height, there is even snow on Puncak Jaya. Ancient American climbers even had time to wonder how a mountain in the equatorial region could have snow there.
