The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has requested a complete ban on the sale of Wi-Fi 6E routers in India, arguing that the government has not yet decided on the use of the 6 GHz spectrum or declared it exempt from license.The industry body, COAI, has called on the telecom department to ban the sale of illegal Wi-Fi 6E routers by e-commerce platforms like Amazon and GadgetsNow. The body argues that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has not made a policy decision on 6 GHz band utilization, and that consumers are responsible for unauthorized transmissions in the 6 GHz band. The organization requests strict measures to ban Wi-Fi products operating in the 6 GHz band.

Tillman Infrastructure has secured a $1 billion financing package to refinance existing loans and provide growth capital for wireless carriers and internet service providers. The funding will support Tillman's industry-leading solutions and further invest in the company, which owns over 2,000 macro tower sites.

 

India's Yotta Data Services has announced a joint venture with Nepal's BLC Holding to build a state-of-the-art data center facility near Kathmandu, Nepal. The facility, K1, will offer a full stack of cloud, managed IT, and cybersecurity services for various use cases, including AI models and enterprise applications. The 60,000 square feet facility will have an overall capacity of up to 4 MW critical IT load and enable both enterprises and hyperscale customers to future-proof their expansion options in the region. The facility, built to Tier 3 standards, is expected to be completed in the next 24 months.

Australia's TPG Telecom and Singtel's Optus Mobile have signed a network-sharing agreement to strengthen the regional mobile network and improve coverage for customers in the region. Under the regional Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) agreement, Optus will provide TPG Telecom with access to its regional radio access network and share spectrum in regional Australia. TPG Telecom will gain access to 2,444 Optus mobile network sites, increasing its national 4G coverage from 400,000 square kilometres to 1,000,000 square kilometres and 984.4% of the population. Optus will license some of TPG's spectrum for use in the MOCN, delivering enhanced capacity, speed, and service quality. The agreement will also accelerate the deployment of 5G sites in the regions, with 1,500 by 2028 and 2,444 by 2030.

DE-CIX Frankfurt, Europe's largest Internet Exchange, set a new data throughput record during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg. The exchange recorded a record data flow of over 17 terabits per second, allowing for simultaneous streaming of over 5.7 million HD videos or processing 3.9 billion A4 pages of text. This marks a 20% increase in data traffic since 2023 and nearly 60% since 2022. DE-CIX Frankfurt's data throughput has nearly tripled over the past five years.
