Apple released iOS 16.3.1 - how to download?

Apple has released iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1. The new OS versions include the usual bug fixes, performance improvements, and security updates.

What's fixed

The list of bug fixes in iOS 16.3.1 includes the following:

A fix for iCloud settings that might "not respond or display correctly if apps are using iCloud."

Fixed a bug where Siri queries on Find My wouldn't work;

Optimized crash detection on iPhone 14 and Phone 14 Pro models.

Also worth noting are two more big fixes:

 

Fixed a kernel vulnerability affecting all Apple devices compatible with iOS/iPadOS 16 that could allow an app to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges;

Fixed a Safari vulnerability that fixes an issue related to the appearance of a malicious Web page.

How to Upgrade

To update to iOS 16.3.1, you need to go to Settings -> Basic -> Software Update -> Download and Install. Then follow the instructions. Everyone can install the new version of the OS.

Interface

The ability to display the battery percentage on all frameless iPhones has appeared.

Lock screen

Ability to customize the look of the screen by changing the color palette, font, as well as by adding widgets.

Privacy

Security checks: helps those who fear stalking remove permissions for geo-positioning and shared passwords.

Automatic security updates.

New required permissions before copying from the clipboard.

Passkeys is a new technology that allows you to sign in to sites and apps without entering passwords. Passkeys are generated by the system, using Face ID or Touch ID.

Lock mode - a mode that improves security when using a smartphone to protect users from narrowly targeted attacks (for example, from the Pegasus spyware, which allows you to extract data from the smartphone without any action on the part of the attacker). It blocks certain functions of the OS, applications, and websites[5].

Face ID now unlocks when the smartphone is in a horizontal position. Works on iPhone 13 and newer.

Improved Live Text and Visual Search

Ability to highlight and copy text from videos.

From recognized text you can convert prices to other currencies or translate text from one language to another without leaving the camera app.

New My Sports section for the best moments, videos and news about sports teams.

Expanded local news.

New Favorites group.

Weather

New forecast modules for details on air quality, local weather forecasts, etc.

Hourly forecasts for the next 10 days with a minute-by-minute indication of rainfall over the next hour.

The ability to receive government notifications for severe weather events such as tornadoes, winter storms, flash floods, etc.

With the discontinuation of the Apple A10-based iPod touch (7th generation), this is the first version of iOS to run exclusively on iPhone models starting with iPhone OS 1.0.2. History

The first developer beta of iOS 16 was released on June 6, 2022. The first public beta was released on July 11, 2022. The official release was on September 12, 2022[8].
