At What Stage Are We in the Industrial Revolution in 2022?

The Industrial Revolution continues to be making great waves since the early 1700 century till date. This Revolution is mostly studied in secondary and higher education from a historical perspective; that is, it is a past event. This explains why, if you ask the least university graduate about the industrial revolution, he/she will say, “that was a topic she studied in long in her secondary education, an old historical topic for that matter”.  The Industrial Revolution is not old as many are confessing, but it’s continually renewed and regaining new strength, from one level of progress unto a higher one. This explains why the industrial revolution is still making new waves even in 2022 till the time is indefinite.

What are the Four Phases of the Industrial Revolution?

The Four Phases of the Industrial Revolution are: Industry 1.0, Industry 2.0, Industry 3.0, and Industry 4.0. These different phases are briefly explained as follow:

Phase 1 (Industry 1.0): The first Industrial Revolution: From late 1700s-mid 1800s (1760-1840). It began in Britain. It started with the manufacture of textile in which, the creation of large industrial factories took over like steam power and cotton gin. Human and animal labour, technology transformed into machinery such as spinning jenny, coke smelting, puddling, and rolling processes for making iron. During this period, factories depend on coal and water as a source of energy generation. The steam engine developed by Thomas Newcomen (1664-1729), acts as a great support system in power energy generation as it burned coal to create a motive force that could be used to pump water out of the shafts of coal mines.

Phase 2 (Industry 2.0): The Second Industrial Revolution: From mid-1800s-early 1900s (1870-1914). It is also known as the Technology Revolution. In this phase, large factories and companies began to use more technologies in mass production to produce goods. There were also important innovations during this period such as electricity, the production line, and the Bessemer steel process. There was the widespread adoption of technology systems such as telegraphs, railway networks, gas, water supply, and sewage systems.

Phase 3 (Industry 3.0): The Third Industrial Revolution: In the late 1900s century. It is also known as the Digital Revolution. It was characterized by the spread of automation and digitization through the use of electronics and computers, the invention of the internet, and the discovery of nuclear energy. It was during this period that more robots were used to perform tasks that were normally to be performed by a human. An example is the programmable logic controllers and all types of robots.

Phase 4: (Industry 4.0): The Fourth Industrial Revolution: The 21st-century revolution. This is still an ongoing process although the 5th revolution has been predicted already. In this revolution, smart technology is highly used with a high assistant of the internet, cyber-physical systems, and autonomous systems that use computer-based algorithms to monitor and control physical things like machinery, robots, and vehicles. It makes everything in the supply chain system smart.

The different phases or stages of the industrial Revolution right from the early 1700 century

WHAT STAGE ARE  WE IN THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION IN 2022?

We’re at the fourth Industrial revolution of phase 4.  We’re at the transitional period between stage 4 which is the fourth industrial revolution to stage 5, which is the fifth industrial revolution. During this stage, Humans intend to create more machinery and robots that will function automatically, and act like humans such that all works to be done by man are carryout effectively by this machinery and robots. There’s a piece of trending breaking news just recently that China created a robot that acts and behaves like a human being. This is explicitly clear that we're in a gradual transition to the 5th Industrial Revolution (Industry 5.0). This is a shred of open evidence to those that thought the industrial revolution ended long ago that there are on the wrong track. Continue to be updated and re-inform on the different progress as the industrial revolution continues making waves this 2022 and the years to come. Thank you.
