Cinderella original vs Disney comparison

Cinderella written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, was published in 1857. The morality of Cinderella was to be pious and good throughout any situation. Cinderella followed this moral, being told by her dying mother to keep praying to God. It shows that you should do good and good will be done to you. It significantly shows that you must take good with the bad, you have to overcome obstacles to reach your goals.

Cinderella was the daughter of a rich man, and his wife fell sick. When Cinderella's mother approached death she told Cinderella to be pious and pray to God, and that she would be watching her from heaven. Cinderella's father remarried to Lady Tremaine. Unknowingly he had entered Cinderella into a grusome life of mistreatment from her stepmother and two step sisters Drizella and Anastasia. Her clothes were taken away and she was forced into a gray bedgown and wooden shoes. She did hard labor, she carried water, lit fires, cooked and hand picked peas. Her step sisters would purposely throw them into the ashes so she'd have to do work again. She had no bed to go to, she would sleep by the cinders which is why she always looked dusty and dirty. That's how Cinderella came about. When her father mentioned to the household that the king was holding a wedding ceremony festival, tensions arised. The step sisters misused Cinderella and got ready from her. The stepmother kept loading chores on Cinderella as an excuse to not take her to the festival. She gave her empty promises that she would take her. Cinderella cried at her mother's grave and prayed. She wished that she could go to the festival with appropriate clothing and her wish came true. A bird threw down a gold and silver dress with embroidered silver silk slippers. She ran to the festival and danced with the prince. To the prince Cinderella was the only one who stood out. She escaped from him though, she did not want him to know where she came from. Cinderella left behind her glass slipper. The next day the step sisters tried fitting their feet in the slipper to prove to the prince he should marry one of them. One of them cut her toe off with a knife while the other cut the heel. Both concealed their pain but the blood was relevant to the prince. He found Cinderella and had her try it on and it fit perfectly. Both arrived at the wedding day to celebrate their marriage. Again selfishness led both step sisters to the wedding, they wanted to share fortune. They were pecked by birds and punished with blindness the rest of their lives. Cinderella got married to the prince.

This original fairytale was twisted to a much updated version, the Walt Disney movie. Considering youth, this version was less explicit. The moral displayed in this version is that anything you wish for can come true, if you keep trying. In this version Cinderella has a  fairy Godmother who grants her wish to go to the ball. The Godmother dresses her up and gets her there before the clock strikes midnight. In this version the step sisters are still selfish and greedy but less harsh. Whenever Cinderella was in a bad situation either the fairy Godmother or her mice friend would help her. She is mistreated here too and faces many struggles before marrying the prince. She did extra chores and wore old clothes. Her wishes came true though. Fairy Godmother helped her ged rid of obstacles and meet the prince. The prince already knew that Cinderella danced with him at the ball. The glass slipper was just reassurance. In this version the sisters had fat feet and almost broke the slipper. It fit Cinderella perfectly and their wedding eventually took place. Cinderella did not let her evil step mother and step sisters succeed. She kept trying and what she wished for came true. The marriage of Cinderella and the prince took place.

In  the movie, the events that occur with Cinderella are presented more calm and handled happily. Cinderella has Godmother and her mice friend to help her in her situations. In the movie the step sisters are also less explicit and harsh, such behavior wouldn't have been appropriate in a children's movie. In the movie the chores she does aren't hard labor either, they're just extra chores that the step sisters wouldn't do because they were too lazy. Children were exposed to this side of the story so they could percieve optimism rather than hatred. They could recieve optimism by the attitude that keeps Cinderella determined to be with the prince. Rather than the original version Cinderella faced many harsh obstacles to be with the prince. Overall, the prince and Cinderella end up together in both versions.

The original fairytale shows that you recieve good things by being pious and hardworking. It shows you that you must face and overcome evil to reach the good. The Walt Disney movie on the other hand, shows that whatever you wish for will come true as long as you keep wishing for it. Morally the original fairytale overpowers the Walt Disney movie. In reality you have to work hard, you give to get. You can not just wish for something and expect it to appear, in reality mice friend and fairy Godmothers wont pull us out of difficult situations. The Walt Disney version does show that good triumphs over evil. This does apply in real life situations. Honesty is the key to success, lying will never get you anywhere.

Both versions overall have different point of views regarding Cinderella. Considering age group certain things were left out of the Walt Disney movie, like the explicitness. In both versions though, Cinderella works hard and overcomes the obstacles her step mother and step sisters cause. Both versions show you and motivate you to keep trying even after you fail a few times. You eventually reach your dreams and goals if you keep trying.
