Delayed puberty and causes of delayed puberty

Puberty is a period, in which adolescents reach sexual maturity and become capable for reproduction.

Delayed puberty occurs when breasts don't develop at the age of 13, or the menstrual cycle didn't begin at a very early age.

Delayed puberty also may occur when the ovaries produce little or no hormones. This is called This occurs when the ovaries are damaged, or the the ovaries are not devolping the way they should develop.It occurs if there's problem with the part of the brain involved in puberty. The basic problem in this situation is that the girls ovaries are not producing the estrogen necessary for devolpment of breasts and initiation of menstrual period. The lack of estrogen may be due to defective ovaries or to some other abnormal body function.

What causes delayed puberty

*Hormonal  "time clock" sex late.In this case the girl is normal in every way except that her hormonal, functioning has not started as early as that of most of her friends. If her tests are normal including pelvic examination, she can be assured that she is normal. She will begin puberty and periods later on, and she will as capable of having children as any other normal woman.

*Abnormal ovaries.If a girl's ovaries are so abnormal that they cannot produce estrogen she will not develop puberty. The most common cause of this condition called turner's syndrome, in which the girls has abnormal chromosomes. There are other,  less common reasons for abnormal ovarian function. She has no ovaries. An ovarian problem that is not so severe,  but can prevent the onset of menstruation is polycystic ovarian syndrome. Ovarian failure can prevent the onset of periods. Patients with premature ovarian failure will usually, but not always have a few period before they cease menstruation.

* Long term illnesses.

*Genetic disorder.
