If you want to create a portfolio in order to get work as an actor or actress you must supply at least 3 to 5 photographs of yourself; one will be casual, one will be smart and one will be only of your head and shoulders. Also you can have a photo of you dressed in an outfit that corresponds to a specific skill or talent: EG if you are into fitness, a dancer or choreographer or just in the world of exercise you may do a photograph of you in fitness clothes.
As an actress you can apply for jobs acting on stage or in front of the camera. You can also apply for jobs as an extra and for jobs in adverts and commercials.
You can even try voiceover work and also promotional modelling for parties and events, front of house or fitting modelling.
You can provide a demo of voiceovers and also radio jingles.
In fact there are is a huge amount of different ways in which you can promote yourself in order to get work.
There are several rules that you must follow when joining an agency for the first time.
These are first never pay to join an agency and never pay for your pictures to be put on their books, never pay for your Z card.
The agency will most probably ask you to come in for a fashion Shoot to take photographs of you in order that they can put those photographs in their book to promote you as one of their clients.
But still you should not pay for this photographic shoot.
The agency will get their Commission from their clients directly and pay you the fee that they have told you they are going to pay you.
They should also pay for your travel.
You should not be required to pay for your travel and be reimbursed, they should organise this for you i
It is very important that you do not pay for any of these things. Otherwise we say in the Industry that these companies and agencies are perhaps a con.
