How A Homeless Teen Created Louis Vuitton

Imagine yourself as a billionaire… It feels amazing! Isn’t it? Everyone wants to become a billionaire in his/her life. But for that a lot of  hardwork and dedication is required for it. Patience also plays a key role in it. Now let’s come to the point…

You must have heard about the Louis Vuitton Company, it is  most valuable luxury brand in the world. Its net worth as of July 21, 2023 was $484.43 billion. It's a really big amount and we can just dream of it.

But do you know about the person who was behind this famous brand Louis Vuitton?

If no, then let me tell you he was ‘A Homeless Teen When He created Louis Vuitton' and even he slept in the forest too. You must be thinking that I’m kidding but I’m not kidding at all. To become successful you have to give your 100%.

This is the story of Louis Vuitton whose vision and hardwork created a  company for which sky is no limit today. Now you must be curious to know about his story, isn’t it?

So without wasting any time, let’s go back in the time to know about this amazing story of Louis Vuitton, his life ,his success, his dedication, his hardwork and all the ups and downs.

 

Part 1: The Miserable life of Louis Vuitton…

Louis Vuitton was born in 1821 in a small village known as Anchay which don’t even had electricity and running water. From this you can understand how poor he was. His father’s name was Xavier and he was a Miller and Farmer. His mother’s name was Corrine who made hats to support her family financially. Louis never got any kind of education. He worked with his father in the farms so that his family could have enough food to survive. For Louis his future was very dark  because of his family's financial condition. The money earned by the family was never enough. Then with all this struggle one more tragedy happened that shattered Louis completely. When he was only 10, his mother passed away and then his father remarried. But his stepmother’s behavior towards him was not good. She was manipulative which became the reason for their never ending fights.

At the age of just 13, years, he ran away from his home because this was too much for him to handle and he thought of going to Paris which was 225 miles away from there. Imagine yourself at his place, you can feel his pain, his feelings and emotions when he ran from his home For a 13 years old child to take a step like this is a big deal.

Louis who was poor and had nothing with him. He had no money and no food with him. So, he walked on his feet and slept hungry in the forest. He went here and there in different villages for the search of work. There he did so much odd jobs and in exchange he would get food or money. But he never had enough money to afford a house so he continued to sleep in the forest. There he learned about working with metal stone fabric and wood from various craftsmen. This was a God’s gift for him. But he never knew that these skills will change his life drastically and will help them to have that life that he always dreamed of  and it took him three years to finally reach to the Paris and then he was 16 years old only. He was finally in Paris, the place for which he ran from his home 3 years ago.

 

 Part 2: The Success On The Way…

In Paris, Louis Vuitton was about to have a life that he always dreamed of.

Then he reached Paris and he was able to find a job of Apprentice Box Maker and Packer. The job of Box maker included making of custom sized boxes for clients and also to pack and unpack them whenever the client had to go on a trip. Louis Vuitton worked there for several years and learned abo Vuitton became the personal box maker of the queen and in the job of Box Makers this would be the highest honor that they could have. But this was not he wanted although he had a good life.

Louis Vuitton was finally on his way to success.

But his dream was to do a business. After getting married he started saving his money so that he could start his business. Finally he succeeded and open his own Box making workshop in Paris which was his ultimate dream.

There Louis found a lots of deficiencies and drawbacks In old boxes as they were made of leather. And one could never stand them.  Then he found that Canvas was much lighter, water resistant and durable and trunks could stand with the flat tops too with it. That’s what he needed. This was a new revolution in the world of luggage. .He became a famous luggage maker in the upper caste society. He even made a catalog for his bags. His bags became the status symbol that every elite person should have. He started receiving orders from the world too. Then he decided to open a new workshop outside Paris as his customers were rising in number drastically. He was living his best life. He was famous, successful and full of dedication. He was continuously trying to improve his designs. So that he can offer best to the customers.

But in this happy and successful life, one more  tragedy was waiting for him that he never even dreamed of. This completely shattered his business into pieces and ruined everything that he had in his life.

 Part 3: One Should Never Give Up…

Someone has rightly said bad time comes from nowhere.

In 1870, Lewis was 49 years old when Franco- Russian war was broke out. Then Louis had to leave his home along with so many people. He had to close his business too.

In 1871, when he returned back to his home Paris, there was nothing left. As everything was broken, the windows the furniture and no equipment was there because they were stolen too.

But he gathered all his courage because to give up was not in his dictionary and he used all of his savings to restart his business that was completely closed.

That time shops were available for rent in large number. Louis Vuitton grabbed this opportunity and opened a shop in a wealthy location in Paris. That location was next to Railway Station and The Grand Hotel. From there customers could come easily to buy luggage. During travelling, customers needed a luggage that they can easily buy because of the suitable and nearby location.

He came with new designs of bags that were much more beautiful than before. They were so modern and loved by all its quality was excellent too. Many other companies tried to copy it but because of the superior quality they failed to make its copy. The customers keep on purchasing from him and became his loyal customers.

For the next 20 years he worked there and made his business successful and then unfortunately he died when he was 70 years old. Then his son Georges Vuitton took over the business.

This story of Louis Vuitton is so inspiring and we have learned that no one should stop dreaming and doing hard work. From a homeless teenager to a person who created a luxury brand. This story is all about his dedication and stubbornness that he  have to do something in his life.
