How to cool down even without air conditioning

Even hot days can be bearable

We all know the basic advice to combat the unbearable heat: drink plenty of water and avoid the sun between ten in the morning and three in the afternoon. However, the truth is that even the hottest summer days are bearable in our latitudes. If you think not, maybe you're just approaching them the wrong way.

Try to ask yourself: am I dressing correctly on hot days? Am I eating the right food? Am I drinking the right fluids? Am I creating even more heat in my living environment than is necessary? If you want to cool down healthily and cheaply this summer, start with the nine tips that the portal vitarian.sk brings you for refreshing in July.

1. If you are warm, do not add more logs to the fire

Many may not realize it, but we are often to blame for an overheated body. A hot shower or a bath full of warm water will not help us in the summer. Try to give yourself at least a 30-day challenge and shower exclusively with cold water, even when washing your head. The water does not have to be ice cold. Just make it cooler than your overheated body and it will have a refreshing effect on it.

A cold bath cools the body beautifully.

However, if you want to really cool down "to the bone", fill your bathtub with the coldest water that flows from your tap and try to wake up in it for 5-15 minutes. In addition to the many positive effects that you will induce in this way, you will cool down your body beautifully before going to sleep and you will fall asleep better. Play some music and relax as if you were lying in a hot bath.

2. Prepare your meals wisely

If you don't turn on the stove or oven, you won't be blowing additional heat into your rooms. On hot days, simply do not boil, bake or fry food. Not only will you not produce heat, but you will serve food on your plate that suits the overheated body better than cooked food. Raw vegetables and fruits naturally cool the body, so by properly preparing food in terms of temperature, you will benefit from both the inside and the outside.

Try preparing a smoothie or fresh juice for breakfast instead of an omelette or sausages, have a slightly chilled watermelon for lunch, a proper portion of a fresh salad made from raw ingredients for lunch, and prepare Spanish gazpacho or cold cucumber soup in the evening. Drinks will also help - avoid sweetened drinks and hot coffee and instead prepare herbal macerates or water with a drop of lemon or orange juice.

3. Cover up

Many people forget this simple matter. However, it can be really effective whether you have fabric curtains or blinds at home. Don't forget to cover them before going to work, and if the sun rises early in the morning on the side of the house where you sleep, keep them covered all night.

Covering up in the hottest weather also helps.

4. Holiday cooling

Despite the fact that it is warm at home, in the summer we often go to holiday destinations where it is even warmer. It is difficult to survive in the tropics without the climate, but the mountains, for example, the Slovak ones, can refresh us even in July or August. Swap hot beaches for mountain trails this summer and overheated seas for icy mountain streams. This way, you can relax not only from work and usual worries but also from the heat.

Swim in cold waters on holiday.

5. Dust off your old fan

Although it does not produce cold air, it can move the stagnant air at home or at work. Next time you turn on the fan at home, try placing a metal bowl with salted ice cubes in front of it. The fan will blow the evaporating moisture into the room and thus moisten the air and gently disinfect it thanks to the salt.

Stagnant air can also be stirred well by a fan.

6. Keep cool during the day

Place a cold wet towel in the freezer for a few minutes on the back of your neck. You cool your carotid arteries, which distribute the cooled blood throughout the body. You can achieve a similar effect even if you submerge your wrists under a stream of ice water.

Cool the veins on your hands with ice water.

7. Dress sensibly

Artificial fabrics may seem thin and cool at first glance, but they often do not allow air to pass through. Therefore, the skin under them suffocates. During hot days, choose natural organic cotton or other breathable fabrics through which the body will be able to "breathe".

8. Turn off the lights

Even light bulbs, especially if there are more of them, can heat up the room. In the summer, every degree counts, so turn on your light bulbs only if necessary. Natural light is out for a long time this part of the year and the sun rises early in the morning, so artificial lighting is only necessary in exceptional cases.

Light bulbs also produce heat. Don't forget to turn them off.

9. Use the power of natural elements

Short full-surface ventilation of a house or apartment during a storm or a colder wind can pleasantly cool and aerate the insides of our homes. Even if you are exposed to a draft for a short time, the air in the apartment or house will move and you will eventually feel refreshed.

Enjoy the summer:)
