How to make drainage around the house? Practical tips

The drainage pipe is the first necessary drainage element. Drainage pipes are located around solid foundations. Their purpose is to collect moisture from the area around the foundations. Pipes are usually made of PVC or polyethylene. Ceramic drainage pipes are much rarer, which at the same time is due to their higher price. Each drainage pipe has small holes around the circumference. It is thanks to them that the water from the site gets into the drainage, from where it is then drained. It is also worth noting that the drainage pipe should be laid with a suitable slope. A minimum reduction of 0.5% is recommended, which will effectively divert flowing water around the building.

Lid - there is a lid or filter cover in a properly made drainage. These are interchangeable elements of a similar purpose. Their task is to allow moisture from the ground to seep into the sewer. The lid and lid are also used to prevent clogging of the drainage. The type of coating must be adapted to the specifics of the terrain. Coconut sheeting is commonly used around foundations in clay soils. On the other hand, if a large part of the plot is made of gravel or sand next to the house, a plastic lining is best suited.

Filtration around the drain – the drainage pipe must be surrounded by filter material. You can use gravel or special drainage plates. Filtration around the drain allows moisture to evaporate from the walls of your home and ensures optimal drainage efficiency.

The control chamber - drainage requires the use of special chambers, which are located at the connection points of drainage pipes. Thanks to them, we can clean the drainage pipes in case they become clogged. Settling tanks should be located in all places where proper belt drainage changes its direction.

The viewing chamber is the element that is located at the end of the drainage made around the house. The task of the observation pit is to collect water and divert it further after exceeding the maximum level

How to make a circular drainage around the house? Step-by-step implementation

In order to properly perform drainage drainage around the foundations, we need to analyze the terrain features and the groundwater level. The choice of certain elements of the system (for example, lagging behind) depends on them.

The drainage should reach the base of the foundation. Therefore, we start the work by creating a pit around the building. Earthworks should be carried out to the depth of the lower part of the foundations, which will ensure optimal moisture removal around the building.

The next step is to organize the filter litter. Drainage pipes are placed on the litter around the house. For optimal drainage of the area, it is necessary to lay pipes with a minimum slope of 0.5%. Moreover, the drainage pipes must be connected to the control chambers located at any changes in the direction of installation.

In order to properly drain the site and organize effective drainage, it is also necessary to lay another layer of covering and filtering material. The ground around the drainage belts should be permeable. Gravel will cope well with this task.

The last step is to remove the pipes from the building. It is recommended to finish the drainage system at a distance of at least 20 meters behind the house. Proper drainage done in this way will divert excess water from the foundation. It is a good practice to complete drainage at domestic sewage treatment plants.

Linear drainage in front of the house — how does it differ from tape drainage and when should it be done?

Linear drainage in front of the house is also a form of rainwater drainage. Ribbon drainage drains water from the ground, while the task of linear drainage is to drain rainwater remaining on the surface.

Hence the answer to the question arises when to use linear drainage in front of the house. This installation is especially recommended when there are puddles on the site and rainwater remains on the surface for a long time. This is a phenomenon that mainly affects properties with impenetrable, heavy soil.

To perform linear drainage, we do not need to drain the substrate. It is enough to install the right, properly selected trays that will drain excess rainwater. The implementation turns out to be quite simple. It is enough to arrange the aforementioned drainage channels in front of the house or in places of the greatest accumulation of rainwater. Dehydration should be carried out with a slight bias. Linear drainage will be most effective if you use drainage trays with protection in the form of metal gratings. Thanks to this, we can arrange drainage in places where vehicles travel or on sidewalks, and the inner part of the channel will not be excessively clogged with large debris.

We already know how to make circular drainage and properly drain using linear drainage channels. If you need more practical information, please refer to the rest of the articles on this portal.
