Jio Phone Next Launch on September 10: All You Need to Know

Jio Phone Next is all set to launch in India on September 10, or Ganesh Chaturthi. The phone was announced at the 44th Reliance Industries AGM back in June. It was positioned as the ultra-affordable 4G smartphone that has been co-developed by Reliance Jio and Google. Jio Phone Next's pricing and specifications haven't been unveiled officially yet, but there have been several leaks. The Jio Phone Next offers Google Play store access and will is confirmed to come with features like voice assistant, automatic read-aloud of screen text, and language translation.

Introduction

Last month, Reliance Jio unveiled Jio Phone 2 with a physical keypad, and brought it to its product portfolio under the sub-Rs. 1,000 category. However, the Jio Phone Next, which is yet to be launched, is the true successor to the original Jio Phone. It has been teased several times on social media by Reliance Jio and Reliance Jio Mobile account. The entire hardware is said to be unchanged, with features such as dual-SIM support and the aforementioned Google apps, including Google Assistant. As we mentioned, the Jio Phone Next will launch on September 10, and it's unclear how much the device will cost. There's no clarity on the launch offers and availability of the Jio Phone Next, but previous leaks have tipped that the phone might be available through Jio.

 

What we know about the phone

Reliance Jio Phone Next will come with a 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. It is dual-SIM and supports 4G VoLTE on both SIMs. The phone also supports Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and GPS. The dual SIM feature is said to have been borrowed from Reliance Jio's current 4G-enabled feature phones. In addition, the next-gen feature phone from Jio also has an FM Radio support. The phone comes with the smart feature that lets it support voice-powered digital assistant, and also recognises text of the messages. What will be new in the Jio Phone Next?

Although the launch date of the Jio Phone Next has not been officially revealed, some details are surfacing on the Internet, thanks to leaks. For instance, the phone could be equipped with an embedded USB cable, making it stand out from the existing Jio Phone model. There is no mention of the phone's screen resolution, or the number of rear and front cameras on the new model, but the inclusion of a USB port indicates that it will have support for charging. How the phone will be different from other phones?

Jio Phone Next, the successor to the original Jio Phone, will come with features such as an all-new UI with support for local languages and various community-specific apps such as a Shazam-like music recognition feature, a Facebook-like photo editor, and a call recorder. It is rumoured to sport a 2.4-inch display with a QVGA resolution. The phone will be 4G VoLTE-enabled and have a dedicated button for the company's voice assistant. Further, it could feature a basic rear camera. While the Jio Phone Next is rumoured to feature a touchscreen display, the original Jio Phone lacks a touchscreen display. However, a report earlier this year suggested that the Next-gen version of the device could sport a full-screen display like the popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus.

 

Conclusion

Based on reports, Jio Phone Next will have all the key features of the Jio Phone but will come with a QWERTY keypad. There won't be a camera on Jio Phone Next, and it will also come with a special search engine that will translate voice contents to text and vice-versa. Jio Phone Next will also reportedly feature a dedicated button that will let users call up any voice assistant to ask questions. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Tuesday unveiled the fourth generation of the Jio GigaFiber broadband service that has been available for testing for over six months now. The company said the service is available in more than 10,000 cities and towns and over 1,100 consumer sites. The consumer service is targeted to start commercial rollout in December 2018.
