Man - that sounds proud!
Man - that sounds proud! The phrase written by Maxim Gorky has become commonplace. We use it without thinking about it, but is it true, especially nowadays? Do we understand who is human and who is not? Or do all upright primates, who can talk and earn money, automatically become human? ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀If we assume that the very first phrase of the dictionary, or now Wikipedia, contains a concentrated definition, then Man is a social being, possessing reason and consciousness, as well as a subject of social and historical activity and culture. On the subject of mind we will talk separately, here, too, not everything is simple, but in general, if you live in society and leave behind a trace in its history - you are human. Of course, there are more profound characteristics which allow disclosing this definition more fully; however, looking at modern society, the overwhelming majority have stopped at the maximum on biological distinctions in understanding the essence. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀So what is there to be proud of? What socio-historical activity or cultural heritage allows you to proudly say, "I am Human"? What makes you so different from the animal world? Your ability to think abstractly? Self-irony? Freedom of choice? Emotion? Faith? Or the ability to plan? ⠀ ⠀⠀ Yes, all this is inherent to man, but... It was given to us at birth, I don't see any reason to be proud, we have no merit in it. But how do we use the advantages we are given? ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀Why is it that in a society which originally consists of individuals endowed with all the above qualities, another phrase is used: "Be human". What puzzle is missing to actually be one? ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀This puzzle is called "Humanity. Let's go back to Wikipedia: Humanity or humanity is love, attention to man, respect for the human person; kindness to all living things; humanity. I will highlight the individual words that play the role of conditional verbs in this definition: love, attention, respect, kindness. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀Rhetorical question: do we live in a world where these very manifestations of personality dominate? So what are we, a human society, or a planet of monkeys with a grenade? And who are you, my friend? ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Only then will a man become a MAN, and only then will he sound proud, when he shows HUMANITY! When he will give back sincerely and unselfishly. When his main principle in life will be "Do no harm". When love is truly unconditional and respect is real. When he will create for the good and receive with gratitude. When the cultural and historical footprint he leaves behind makes the world a richer and better place. When he will use his advantages to create and not to destroy. When the motivation for life becomes the question, "What can I give to this world?" And when the memory of him makes others feel warmer, then and only then can he be proud that he is a MAN! ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀And you know the best part? To become a Man, you just have to make the decision to be a Man. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Be Human, my friend. Be Human! ⠀
