Massive fire destroys private beach club at Karma Kandara resort

A massive fire destroyed a private beach club at Karma Kandara resort in Ungasan over the weekend, officials say, as firefighters had trouble accessing the location during the incident.

Denpasar Police spokesman, I Ketut Sukadi, said the incident occurred at nearly midnight on Saturday. The fire engulfed about 500 square meters of the structure, as seen in the clip below:

“Accessing the location of the fire was pretty difficult, so it was hard to put out the fire,” Sukadi said.

Karma Beach guests would ordinarily take a hill tram from the top of the cliff to get to the beach club, but this particular access point was deemed too dangerous because the roof of the restaurant was made from reed-like structure that was highly flammable.

The fire was first noticed by a local pecalang (traditional Balinese security forces), who then alerted the security personnel at Karma Kandara resort.

According to reports, it took about seven hours to extinguish the fire. Thankfully, there were no fatalities in the incident.

Coconuts has reached out to Karma Kandara for more details about the incident, and will update this article as soon as we get a reply.
