Meta Been Sued By California States Over Considered Being A Danger For Youth

It's been reported that various U.S states are deploying and suing Meta platforms for it's Instagram units. They have filed a lawsuit against Meta accusing them of having a big hand in destroying the mental state of teens and youth as they are becoming highly addicted of these platforms.

In lawsuit filled in the Oakland California, federal court on Tuesday, says that 33 states including California and NYC New York City says Facebook (Meta) has repeatedly deceived it's consumers about that horrific dangers of it's platforms and knowingly or unknowingly provoked youth and teenagers into highly addictive social media use.

There's also been a research over the scenario that has undoubtedly shown that young children's use of Meta's social media platforms is being associated with their mental health that's includes depression, anxiety, rebellious behavior, insomnia, and disconnectivity with education and daily errands, and many other negative outcomes are to be seen, as considered in this research.

Meta very well know that children have long been an appealing demographic for businesses, which solidify brand loyalty and puts on an impression. Also for Meta younger consumers may help secure more investors plus advertisers who assure that these teenagers will keep buying their products as they grow up.

This newly trending lawsuit is a combination of legal actions against social media companies, being the voice of children and teens. This lawsuit is also hitting hard over TikTok and Google's YouTube.

Meta in return of this has said that it was "disappointed" further says "Instead of working productively with companies across the industry to create clear, age-appropriate standards for the many apps teens use, the attorneys general have chosen this path."

Meta shares fell 0.6% on the Nasdaq after eight more U.S states and Washington D.C filing same similar lawsuits against the company on Tuesday. It's been confirmed that total number of authorities taking against the Menlo Park, California are around 42.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta has defended his company's handling of social content that some might find offensive, it states "At the heart of these accusations is this idea that we prioritize profit over safety and well-being. That's just not true."

Report says that in Tuesday's case, Meta could face civil penalties of $1,000 to $50,000 for each committed crime.

Furthermore evidences show that in 2021 Meta knew that Instagram, which began as a photo sharing app, was addictive and worsened body image issues more known as body shaming issues for some teen girls. Meta was also called a reason of high suicidal rates in 2021.

The lawsuit by 33 states conducts that Meta has strived to publicly ensure that young teenagers spend as much time as possible on social mingling platforms knowing that they are suspected to the need of approval in the form of "likes" or "follow ups" from other users over their content.

One of California Attorney General Rob Bonta, said "Meta has been harming our children and teens, provoking addiction to boost it's own corporate profits."
