School Spirit will be lost - Uniforms are no longer required

"Students will not be required to wear uniforms,"  with the ongoing debate on social media and other platforms regarding this policy, many people are arguing if it's a good idea or not. But we need to think that it is crucial to hear both sides based on important considerations, for the benefit of all.

First, we need to hear about the students side about the policy. Uniforms are not just a white blouse and a plain or fancy long colored skirts or pants. Uniforms bears the symbol of the school and every time a student wear it, it gives them a sense of pride and belongingness to be part of the school they are in. In short, it became their identity and they will be distinguished from one school to another.

Aside from losing their identity, it will look like they are a bunch of stray children who have lost their homes, which is the school, their supposed to be "second home". Not wearing uniform will be considered as "anti-poor", too. Usually, uniforms are being passed on to younger siblings for families who can't afford to always buy new uniforms every school year. With this, they are able to save money and spend on their daily necessities.

But now, parents will have to buy more clothes for their children, and some students wants to wear trending clothes. And why do students want to wear trendy clothes or new clothes? It is to not be bullied or will rank below hierarchies. Studies show that students are being bullied to how they look especially if they always wear the same clothes, old clothes and will create division among students.

However, according to other people ,this policy was meant to ease the burden of students and families in the wake of rising prices and lost livelihood due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some families don’t have anything to eat, so they prepare to buy their essentials rather than school uniforms.

In addition, this might be a chance for the Education department to rethink sex-based and stereotyped uniform policies. This will enable them to spread the word about inclusivity, development, and other topics. However, it is better to let them decide on this when they are more capable of weighing things out.

It is true that no longer requiring of school uniforms will benefit poor filipino families but wearing school uniforms is part of being a students.

Just imagine how just a simple uniform will have a lot of impact. Wearing uniforms reduce bullying, improve study ethic, increase safety, remove peer pressure, encourage professionalism, reduce distraction in fashion, focus on character, treat each student with equality.

Wearing a uniform, aside from the culture we cultivated inside the school, it also encourages us to have that "School Spirit", the best way to get students engaged and motivate them study. It serve as the soul of every students that are willing to live in their second home which is the school.Students have choice ,they are free to decide and choose.
