MOSCOW, October 17 / Radio Sputnik. Former Georgian leader Mikhail Saakashvili, imprisoned and on hunger strike, has weakened physically, but does not need urgent hospitalization yet, said the politician's doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze.

"I advise you to schedule a consultation earlier than Tuesday so that the doctors can discuss further steps. Should he be transferred to the hospital, what minerals to give, and so on ... He has weakness, pallor, it is difficult for him to move. There is no need for hospitalization at these moments. But let's see what happens next, "- quotes the doctor RIA Novosti.

Kipshidze also spoke about Saakashvili's morale. According to the doctor, the politician is firm, strong and does not intend to end the hunger strike.

Mikhail Saakashvili was detained on October 1 in Tbilisi, where he returned after 8 years of emigration. The ex-president is involved in several criminal cases at once. He was convicted in absentia of the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of deputy Valery Gelashvili. In the first case, Saakashvili was sentenced to three years in prison, in the second - to six. In addition, he is involved in the cases of dispersal of the opposition rally on November 7, 2007, the pogrom of the Imedi TV company and the embezzlement of funds from the state budget - they are still being considered by the courts.

Earlier, Sputnik radio reported on the rally of Saakashvili's opponents, which they staged near the prison.
