What happens if a mole is damaged?

Everyone has a mole. Some have fewer, some have more, but anyone can accidentally remove a mole. There is a popular opinion that it is dangerous, that it can cause serious damage to health. I, too, became seriously interested in the possible consequences, after I accidentally damaged one of my moles. Indeed, there are reasons for concern, but in order not to scare you unnecessarily, let's look into the matter in more detail.

First, let's find out what a mole is? Moles in the usual sense are called "nevi", they are dark brown because of the concentration of dark pigment "melanin" in this space of the skin. But in everyday life, people often mistakenly consider other formations - melanoma, angioma, papilloma - to be moles.

What happens if melanoma is damaged?

Under certain conditions, in cases of abnormal cellular tissue development, an ordinary mole can cause melanoma to develop. Melanoma is a malignant tumor and is very difficult to distinguish from an ordinary "nevus" in appearance.

Symptoms that indicate that you have damaged melanoma:

  • excessive soreness
  • prolonged (several days) non-healing
  • inflammation around the torn formation
  • itching is felt at the site of injury
  • hair falls out in the affected area
  • after a while, the "mole" became too dark or the color became uneven
  • possible formation of "nodules" or a mole began to grow

If you have skinned melanoma, do not panic, there will be no immediate negative consequences, but it can intensify the development of cancer. It is necessary to appeal medical help from a specialist.

What happens if an angioma is damaged?

Unlike melanoma, angioma can be recognized relatively easily. It has a dark cherry color, occasionally with a bluish tint. Externally, an angioma can look like a round-shaped protrusion or as an extensive birthmark. It develops as a result of defects in the walls of blood vessels and is benign. If an angioma is damaged, it bleeds profusely. However, apart from the fright, there are no severe consequences for the person. The only thing is that the angioma can grow even larger, but without cancer complications, that is, it will not turn into melanoma.

What happens if the papilloma is damaged?

A papilloma or wart is a growth on the skin that is summoned by a papillomavirus infection. It is quite simple to distinguish by its color, close to the bloom of the skin. Accidental removal of a papilloma can cause very strong painful sensations, but bleeding is poorly expressed. Of the harmful consequences can be the spread of the viral infection to uninfected space of the skin.

What to do in case of damage to both an ordinary and a dangerous mole

1. The first thing to do is to treat the area around the wound (by no means the wound itself!!!) with antiseptic - medical alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, green.

2. After treatment, be sure to put a sterile bandage or seal it with a bactericidal adhesive tape.

3. Then be sure to consult a doctor to find out exactly what skin formation you have damaged. This is really necessary so that you don't miss a case of melanoma and start treatment in time if you find it. To further "stimulate" you to be examined, here is a sad statistic: One person dies of melanoma every hour in the world.
