From November 1 messenger WhatsApp stopped working on outdated models of smartphones. This became known on Monday from the message of support for the application.

Protective mechanism: what messengers can replace WhatsApp

Telegram and Signal announced a sharp increase in the number of users

"We support Android devices as long as they meet the following requirements: your phone has OS 4.1 or newer; your Android can receive SMS or calls during the number confirmation process," the statement said.

Owners of iPhones will only be able to use WhatsApp on models running iOS 10 or newer.

Plans to disable WhatsApp on older models of phones became known on October 28.

A day later, it was reported that new features would become available in the messenger. One of them will allow users who use the same account on multiple devices to organize their chat space more flexibly. Fixed dialogs will be synchronized between all devices and there will be an opportunity to mark them.

Another option will appeal to those who often work with the application through the computer. WhatsApp Desktop will get the ability to configure privacy settings. Now this can only be done from a smartphone.

On October 20, it became known that the messenger WhatsApp will provide its users with the ability to search for products and services in a special catalog. Companies that sell their products through the app will now be able to organize products by category, so that customers no longer need to scroll through long lists.
