International Women's day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year. This is a major event in the history of all women over the globe. But why it is just women's day, why not men's and women's day?
The purpose of women’s day is to show that women are also important in society vis-à-vis men. This is because, in the past years, women have been seen and considered invaluable in a society whose roles have been seen only in the kitchen, at home or regarding lower positions and professions in society. But women have more roles to play in politics, business, education, health, science and technology. There is a need to integrate women in all sectors of life; knowing that women are capable of handling issues that men find difficult in solving sustainably.
This is why the theme for the International Women’s days in the year 2022 was:
“ *Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”*
This theme calls on people to work towards a world that is equitable, inclusive, and free from bias and discrimination so the playing field is levelled for women moving forward.
“Today, we have to present the opportunity to put women and girls at the centre of our planning and actions, and to integrate gender perspectives into global and national laws and policies. This means, women have to be seen as more valuable for the growth of every society.
Furthermore, women have to be given a room in politics, business, education and decision-making to make things work in a greater and more sustainable way; which men couldn’t do. This will birth forth a future with many surprises, joy and sustainability.
Can women change society in any Way? Yes, Very Possible. They have a greater role to play if we give them such an opportunity to lead and channel our decision-making process. Just as a woman values her new born baby, women can better value the lives of people in a society, and the resources in that society such that these resources are exploited sustainably.
Some of the characteristics of women are that they are soft-hearted, gentle and kind contrary to men. Man has failed in solving many societal problems through greed, war, and pressure in solving them which have later aggravated into more danger and devastating consequences. If such situations were put in the hands of women, a better means of solving these problems will have been implemented. This means, women can handle leadership decisions more than men. Let's Celebrate all the women on this Special day. But the question most men always ask is: Are women ready to change the world if there are given such opportunities in politics, administrative, educational and ministerial leadership as men or they are capable of using the same strategies used by men or even worse ones?
